Senior Revenue Recognition Analyst - Ottawa, Ontario

The individual in this position is responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of revenue.  The position requires a solid understanding of revenue recognition rules under IFRS and the ability to interpret  and  apply  these  rules  to  the  contracts   signed  by  Telesat. The  position  is  a  key contributor to the month  end close processThis position holds ownership  of specified  general ledger accounts,  including recording  monthly transactions,  performing monthly accounting reconciliations and following up/investigating any unreconciled difference.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Read contracts, interpret and apply the appropriate accounting treatment under IFRS and US GAAP
  • Complete finance assessment on revenue contracts in the contract database
  • Research technical accounting issues and prepare accounting memos
  • Ownership  of   specified   general   ledger   accounts.  Preparing   the   relevant   monthly accounting entries and reconciliations
  • Prepare quarterly/annual external reporting note disclosures
  • Prepare the quarterly MD&A
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly balance sheet and Income statement variance analyses
  • Prepare various monthly and quarterly revenue reports
  • Prepare quarterly embedded derivatives schedule
  • Liaise with auditors with respect to areas of responsibility
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports and participate in special projects, as required

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Professional accounting designation CPA (CA), CPA (CMA) or CPA (CGA) is required
  • Bachelor's degree In Commerce or Business
  • Sound knowledge of Revenue Recognition concepts under IFRS
  • Experienced ERP systems user
  • Must have experience in recording entries in multiple currencies (transactional, functional and reporting)
