What We Need

We’re looking for a LEO User Terminal Modem Specialist who will provide technical expertise in the development of equipment, software and systems related to the development of LEO Constellation user terminals and related equipment to be used on Telesat LEO Constellation and will lead all technical aspects related to the development, validation, manufacturing and deployment of LEO user terminal modems.

The Nitty-Gritty of What You’ll Do

  • Develop and maintain technical requirements for Telesat LEO Constellation user terminal modems
  • Develop RFPs and Statements of Work for high volume manufacturing of LEO Constellation user terminals with a special focus on the modem technologies and modem chipsets
  • Interface with potential modem manufacturers of LEO Constellation user terminals
  • Work in close collaboration with Telesat’s systems engineering and product management teams to ensure seamless integration of terminal functionality and performance within the complete system
  • Develop and maintain a LEO Constellation user terminal modem development and deployment plan that is consistent with service introduction schedule
  • Identify technical compliance testing and product assurance requirements for manufacturing and qualification of LEO Constellation user terminals
  • Monitor technical compliance and quality of product produced by manufactures of LEO Constellation user terminals
  • Recommend and contribute to improvements to LEO system as a whole
  • Report progress with terminal / modem vendors on regular basis to program management


We think you’re the ideal candidate if you possess the following:

  • B.Eng. (Electrical or Physics); Masters or Ph.D. Electrical Engineering will be considered assets
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in satellite systems development and implementation  
  • Specialization in RF engineering
  • Expert level knowledge of satellite communication technologies with strong emphasis on user terminal equipment design and implementation
  • Knowledge of satellite communication access techniques, modulation and associated performance trade-offs
  • Knowledge of antenna technologies required for terminals tracking NGSO satellites for mobile land, aeronautical, maritime and fixed applications
  • Experience in cloud, edge computing, or mobile networking
  • Familiarity of regulatory environment for NGSO satellite spectrum
  • Knowledge of satellite modems and hub technology performance
  • High degree of understanding of ASIC design and manufacturing
  • Understanding of manufacturing constraints for high volume production of satellite terminals to be deployed globally
  • Understanding of product assurance and quality control methods applicable to high volume production of satellite terminals
  • Understanding of physical layer communication protocols for satellite communications
  • Excellent communicator. Ability to summarize complex problems, solutions and recommendations
  • Fluent in English, written and oral

You must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) to join our team.
