Scope of Position The Personal Financial Advisor (PFA) is responsible for managing and building an assigned book of business made up primarily of members with identified multifaceted needs. The PFA ensures that all of the member’s financial needs are being met by the most appropriate resource within Alterna, and has overall responsibility/accountability for the relationship. Through proactive relationship management, the PFA retains and grows the book by increasing the share of member business using both credit and investment products. Major Responsibilities - Manages an assigned portfolio of members using financial planning concepts, advisory and relationship tools to meet all members' complex credit/investment needs. - Establishes regularly scheduled contacts with members/clients to establish relationships that will identify members’ needs. - Keeps files on member relationships that include member’s financial goals and PFA plan of action to assist the member/client in meeting those goals. - Is the branch liaison with Financial Advisory Services (FAS) and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) representatives/team. - Manages assignment member portfolio jointly with other specialists in Alterna i.e. FAS and/or SME - Provides financial advice using some financial planning tools (i.e. cash-flow and credit management). - Acts as a mentor for less experienced staff under the guidance of the Branch Manager. - Acts as the branch centre of expertise on the use of financial calculators, complex credit and managed portfolio solutions. - Maintains strong relationships with alliance partners. - Deals with referrals when deemed necessary based on the complexity of the members/clients requests. Qualifications Educations / Certifications / Experience - Post secondary education combined with 5 years related experience in a financial institution - Or a high school diploma coupled with a minimum of 7 years experience in the financial services industry. - A minimum of 3 years lending experience - Mutual Fund Licence -- CSC or IFIC - CFP designation or willing to work toward CFP or PFP designation (licensed as CFP or PFP an asset) Knowledge / Skills - Extensive knowledge of processing/procedures of complex products including deposits, investments, loans and mortgages - Computer literate. - Excellent investment knowledge and understanding of investment markets. - Sound lending judgement. - Excellent Sales skills - Excellent communication skills both written and oral - Time management and multi tasking skills Competencies - Proactively seeks out and involves members/clients or prospective member/clients in assessing services, solutions or products to identify ways to assist members with their personal financial goals. Tracks trends and developments that will affect ability to meet current and future member/client needs. Recognizes, analyzes and solves problems in complex situations, identifying the right product to satisfy member needs. - Proactively identifies and acts on opportunities to improve processes or outcomes that enable better service to our members. - Negotiates to establish a win, win situation when negotiating with members/clients in pricing and fees.
