Summary:
AECL is an integrated nuclear technology company providing services to nuclear utilities worldwide. Our 5000 employees are focused on delivering design and engineering, construction management, specialist technology, operations support, and waste management and decommissioning in support of CANDU reactor products.
From the Sheridan Park location, engineers and support staff design, procure and construct CANDU Nuclear Power Plants worldwide and complete specialized service work and major refurbishment projects on various CANDU stations. The facility is comprised of six office buildings and a development, test and manufacturing facility in Sheridan Park, located at the QEW in Mississauga at the boundary with Oakville. For most staff, the working condition is an office environment comparable to any large consulting engineering firm.
Positions become available from time to time for co-op students from the following disciplines:
Mechanical Engineering Civil Engineering Human Factors
Chemical Engineering Electrical Engineering Business
Engineering Physics Materials Science Physics
Computer Engineering Computer Science
Duties:
- Contribute as part of a team (working with the Section Head) that provides engineering design and analysis support in the specific discipline.
- Provide technical support for various components including selection, sizing and performance analysis; interaction and guidance of related development and verification testing; perform work towards preparation of all equipment related documentation including assessment documents, performance analysis and equipment Technical Specifications.
- Perform work to meet the quality requirements of the Company.
- Work with and support senior staff and interface with other engineering disciplines as required.
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a Relevant Honours or Engineering Degree from a University of recognized standing. Preference will be given to students in the more advanced years of their specific discipline.
- Ability to perform classical and computerized design calculations and familiarity with analysis and modeling codes in their specific discipline will be an asset.
- Ability to work in a team environment and interface with various groups.
- Be proficient in the Microsoft suite software such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Proficiency with MathCAD is also an asset.
- Ability to understand and meet deadlines.
- Effective problem solver with a results-oriented approach and ability.
- Strong planning and organization skills.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
