Duties

 

Nuclear Facilities Operations comprises the Universal Cells in the Fuels & Materials Cells and the Heavy Water Upgrading Plant.  The Operations Engineer is required to provide maintenance engineering, operational and project support to the NFO operating facilities.  The duties include:

·         Becoming knowledgeable in the design and operation of designated systems, and providing support as a technical expert in those systems.

·         Providing engineering support in the day-to-day operation of the Fuels & Materials Cells the Universal Cells, and the heavy water upgrading plant.  In these activities, provide technical support to Nuclear Operators and Facility Supervisors.

·         Managing NFO projects, which are typically complex maintenance activities, equipment replacement or upgrades, or process improvements.  Managing these projects includes cost estimating, scheduling, tracking, facilitating procurement, overseeing maintenance activities, overseeing commissioning, providing training, and ensuring that all required documents are completed.

·         Updating documents such as operating procedures, emergency procedures, criticality safety documents, safety analysis reports, Post Irradiation Examination procedures, and training procedures.

·         Assisting with the completion of compliance corrective actions.

·         Participating with event investigations.

·         Supporting NFO's interests on the major Shielded Facilities Refurbishment Project by providing internal reviews of design changes/modification and associated documents, as requested.

·         Other duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

 

·         Eligibility for membership in the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) as an Engineer-In-Training.

·         A Bachelor degree in Engineering or Applied Science from an accredited university Engineering program.  The preferred disciplines are Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical, or Materials.  Candidates with a degree in another engineering discipline or with relevant experience with mechanical and process systems, and with a demonstrated aptitude will also be considered. 

·         General computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets, and database software is required.

·         Experience in maintenance planning, design, commissioning and/or operations experience in a plant or nuclear operating environment would be an asset.

·         Ability to work in a team environment, maintain a clear focus on team goals, and establish good rapport with groups and individuals of many diverse professions is required.

·         Good organizational and work planning skills and the ability to work with a minimum of supervision are required.

·         Excellent written and oral communications skills are required.

·         Experience in the management of small projects is an asset.

·         Knowledge of CAN N286 and /or ISO 9000 standards is an asset.

·         Knowledge of systems classification and registration requirements is an asset.

·         Ability to perform a variety of duties, changing tasks without loss of efficiency or composure.

·         Knowledge of root cause analysis techniques would be an asset.

·         Knowledge or working experience with hot cells would be an asset.

Knowledge or working experience with Metallurgy and PIE (Post Irradiation Experiment) work would be an asset.
