| Background Facilities Decommissioning is responsible for the execution of all activities associated with facilities decommissioning at CRL, Gentilly 1. Douglas Point, NPD and Glace Bay. The Decommissioning Field Engineer reports to the Decommissioning Program Manager, in Decommissioning & Waste Management, and has responsibilities for planning and delivery of work packages in the Facilities Decommissioning portfolio. Facilities Decommissioning projects encompass planning, managing and completing large and complex decommissioning projects to the full satisfaction of project Clients and Stakeholders (NRCan/LMU). The Decommissioning Field Engineer ensures that field activities are planned and implemented in accordance with AECL policies and procedures, and project management processes, to meet Customer requirements. Duties - The Decommissioning Field Engineer has the following responsibilities:
- Provide oversight of changes in the field during the implementation activities in the decommissioning portfolio
- Prepare detailed decommissioning work packages, technical documents, work scopes, procedures, estimates and schedules in support of decommissioning projects.
- Provide innovative solutions to decommissioning and waste management challenges.
- Perform field walk downs to verify status of facilities against documented plans.
- Coordinate and monitor services provided to Decommissioning by external suppliers
- Participate or lead Pre/Post Job reviews.
- Assist in developing project work packages, including, deliverables, budgets and schedules;
- Interface with design participants, operations engineers, technical staff and nuclear operators and obtain technical input, as required, to meet Project and Client requirements;
- Ensure that deliverables meet the quality objectives of the project and ensure deliverables are completed on schedule and within budget;
- Identify, assess and initiate changes to approved design, work scope, budgets and schedules following applicable change control processes; and
- Travel to external suppliers, as required, to effectively execute the implementation phases of the project.
Qualifications - B.Sc. in Civil/Structural Engineering from a recognized university with a minimum of 10 years experience in field construction or decommissioning.
- Eligible for Membership in Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).
- Sound knowledge of civil engineering and significant working experience in civil/structural engineering in the areas of building design using steel, masonry, timber and reinforced concrete.
- Sound knowledge of the National Building Code and National Fire Code and other relevant codes and standards used in the design, construction, and decommissioning of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities
- Supervisory and project management experience.
- Experience on the handling of radioactive materials and knowledge on the hazards of radiation would be an asset.
- Engineering experience in operations, maintenance and decommissioning of nuclear facilities and associated fields will be considered.
- Sound knowledge of radiation protection principles would be an asset
- Experienced in dealing with engineering contractors
