Duties

 

Operations Support is a new group whose function is to provide support to nuclear facilities such as NRU, DIF, MPF etc. This support consists of Technical Support, Training, Safety & Licensing, Support and Programs & Standards.

 

The Technical Support Unit (TSU) is sub-divided into three groups; support of existing Operations, Chemistry and Plant Improvements. TSU is responsible for providing the technical support needed by facilities to maintain and improve their operations.

Successful applicants will be assigned to the Programs & Standards group to develop and implement new programs and standards in a mini project type environment for RTO (Reactor & Technology Operations)-wide use.

 

Programs & Standards will develop and implement new programs to support the drive to Operational Excellence. Examples of new programs would be an Aging Management program and a Plant Health Monitoring Program. Small teams will develop new programs by benchmarking marking best practices, developing program documentation, assisting with the training of the new program and then supporting its implementation. Once the new program has been implemented the Plant Improvements department of TSU will take over and run the program.

In addition the Programs & Standards group will seek opportunities to standardise existing processes around current good practices.

 

Working in Programs & Standards offers an excellent opportunity for career development while working on a variety of programs and standards, which have RTO-wide applicability. This work involves working with a number of different functions and groups across RTO. The positions offer unique challenges, exposure to commissioning activities, operating systems problem solving, design interface and maintenance field activities.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor degree in engineering or honours science graduate from a University of recognized standing.
  • 1-2 years relevant engineering experience in operations, maintenance or project environment is an asset.
  • An aptitude and interest in operations process improvement.
  • An ability to develop and promote well thought out solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member and to respond to challenging schedule demands.
  • Proven organizational and work planning skills and the ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Results oriented with a strong desire to excel and a positive attitude.
  • Strong written, oral and presentation skills.
  • General computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications software is a requirement.
  • Licensed with Professional Engineers in the province in which you practice or must be in the process of obtaining a license within the relevant provincial association
