Chalk River Laboratories (CRL), located in Chalk River, Ontario is the site of our major research facility. The CRL site is an integral component of AECL´s ongoing R&D efforts. Dedicated scientists, engineers and technical staff perform research and provide support for the advancement of Canadian nuclear technology throughout the world.

 

Chalk River, is situated in the picturesque Ottawa Valley, and is located 190km northwest of Ottawa. The sensational natural geography of the region provides AECL employees and families with an abundance of recreational activities.

 

 

Duties:

 

·                    Under general supervision to perform work associated with electronic, electrical and instrumentation equipment and systems:

 

·                    Performs the skilled work associated with one of the electronic, electrical or instrumentation trades and their overlapping areas while providing assistance with skilled work specific to the other trades.

 

·                    Performs and assists with fabrication, installation, maintenance, repair and revision of electronic equipment, electrical distribution within buildings, power and signal wiring, control and alarm systems, instrumentation process control and measurement systems and data acquisition system.

 

·                    Maintains service records.

 

·                    Practices good housekeeping and observes general Plant safety and health regulations.

 

·                    Assists in training apprentices or other employees as required.

 

·                    Directs the work of apprentices, helpers, labourers and other trades as required.

 

·                    Works in any area of the sites as directed.

 

·                    Carries out other related duties as required.

 

·                    Undertakes additional training of certification appropriate to these duties.

 

·                     Must maintain a prescribed kit of tools.

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Education and Experience:

 

·                    Must have completed apprenticeship training or the equivalent and quality as either a certified electrician with additional electronics training to the Control Mechanic level; or be a qualified Control Mechanic.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

·                    Must have skilled trades ability in the trade in which qualification is held, with working expertise in electronics and demonstrated skills in the other trade ( Electrical or Instrument).

 

·                    Must have the ability to read and mark up electrical, electronics and instrumentation manuals, computer technology software and hardware, drawings and specifications.

 

·                    Must have a thorough knowledge of basic electrical theory and be familiar with the requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code.

 

·                    Must have a through knowledge of basic electronics measurement and control theory.

 

·                    Must be familiar with and be able to operate standard electrical, electronics and instrument tools, equipment and testing apparatus.

 

·                    Must have demonstrated knowledge and skills in maintenance and troubleshooting of complex electrical, electronic and instrumentation circuits and recognize potential sources of trouble.

 

·                    Must have the ability to assume responsibility and work with a minimum of supervision.

 

·                    Must have the ability to translate the customer´s instructions, problem description or needs into work requirements.

 

·                    Must have the ability to cope with vigorous physical activity associated with maintenance work.

 

·                    Must be responsible for maintenance, inspection, and record keeping.

 

·                    Must have basic writing and clerical skills and the ability to work effectively with a variety of personnel.

 

·                     Must be capable of passing a colour blindness test.

 

·                    Must have a working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act related safety codes.

 

·                    Under reciprocal agreements signed with CEP, IAFF F-4, the Allied Council, and the Chalk River Nuclear Process Operators, any internal applicants from these groups and the excluded group will be given consideration for this position.
