Duties
The engineering team under the General Manager, Product Engineering Division is part of the New Build CANDU organization and has broad responsibilities for the delivery of the engineered design and safety analysis work for ACR-1000. The successful applicant will work as a member of the Product Engineering team to support the Production Manager in meeting key project milestones and to address Risk Management issues. This position is a career development opportunity for a fully qualified engineer wishing to further develop their CANDU power plant knowledge and project engineering management skills.
The key role of the Project Engineer is to support the Production Manager in enhancing production interface with project control and document control, addressing production issues including critical path and cost management, supporting risk management integration into production work, and provide production interface co-ordination of the technical and commercial aspects of work (including IWRA preparation/approval, progress report and project reporting) with different groups within Product Engineering Division and with outside groups such as functional groups in E&TD performing ACR work.
The Project Engineer duties include:
· Provide production support to ACR NSP Engineering, Core Design and Safety Analysis, and Configuration & Standardization to ensure project deliverables and milestones are completed on time and on budget while meeting the Project specific quality plan.
· Coordinate with designers and safety/ licensing groups on defining the work requirements and assist in scheduling, monitoring and resource planning of these activities.
· Facilitate Product Engineering estimate and forecast activities to support project production completion for all project phases.
· Facilitate work and completion of deliverables with various disciplines within Product Engineering and establish corrective actions as required.
· Proactively identify issues for continuous improvement in term of work sequencing and recommendation as required.
· Interface with Project Planning / Cost Control / Document Control in the implementation and execution of the Product Engineering plan.
· Work closely with change management to maintain and control product configuration.
· Liaise with other external groups as required for the production of project deliverables.
· Coordinate with project controls team members to monitor Cobra summaries and ACR-1000 baseline activities appropriate for materials, facilities, expenses and contracts for allocation to the correct Cost Accounts Ids.
· Record, organize and analyze production trend and provide recommendations to management as necessary.
· Prepare monthly status report and participate in production and progress review meeting.
· Undertake special assignments and perform other related duties as required.
· Provide guidance and support to junior Production Management team members to ensure effective and consistent development and application of project management processes, particularly in the area of earned value.
· Perform work in accordance with the NBC and the Company QA programs and manuals.
Qualifications
The preferred candidate will have the following qualifications:
· Honours degree in Engineering or Applied Science from an accredited university
· Minimum of 3-5 years of practical experience in engineering and cost/planning/scheduling or equivalent discipline
· Registration in the Province of Ontario as a Professional Engineer is a must for applicants for Project Engineer positions.
· Familiarity with program management and associated earned value management.
· Proficiency in written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills is required
· Candidate must demonstrate strong team membership skills, as well as a high degree of self-motivation and leadership
· Strong problem solving skills are essential
· Must be flexible and adaptable to changing requirements, and to working under pressure.
· Familiarity with AECL policies, procedures, business processes and quality assurance program.
