Description:

WL Maintenance & Work Management provides manufacturing, construction and maintenance services to site customers, and work management across the WL site. This includes supporting WL Decommissioning Operations, the WL Decommissioning Project, the Reactor Safety Division, the Waste Technology Division and non-AECL tenants.

 

Duties

 

  • Rough carpentry work (e.g., wooden forms for concrete, erecting scaffolding, building temporary hoarding enclosures, construction of framework for walls, roofds, floors and partitions, construction of wooden crating)
  • Finish carpentry work (e.g., apply wall panelling, flooring, framing, trim, hanging doors and windows, construction of wood cabinets, shelves and dividers)
  • Concrete work (e.g., erection of steel reinforcing wire and/or bars, placing of concrete and surface finishing, cutting of concrete and brick, plastering and stucco work)
  • Construction of metal buildings (e.g., installation of metal roofing, metal siding, metal trim, installation of metal overhead doors)
  • Able to produce material take-offs and accurate labour estimates from drawings and sketches
  • Operation and maintenance of all types of hand and power wood working tools
  • Performance of routine functions associated with the classification, as required
  • Practice good housekeeping in the work area and observe general plant rules
  • Work may include occasional field assignments and work in a radiation environment, hence classification, as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) is a requirement
  • Work overtime when required
  • Accountable to Trades Supervisor, Foreman, Shop Leadhand and/or Job Leader as applicable
  • Must work in a safe manner and follow AECL and jurisdictional safety rules

 

Qualifications

 

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must have completed four-year apprenticeship training or equivalent and be qualified as a carpenter with an Interprovincial Red Seal ticket.
  • Must be able to read engineering drawings and to fabricate components from these drawings and sketches.
  • Must have good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Must possess normal physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work and be able to wear and work in protective clothing
