| Duties The following describes the duties of a CFI Superintendent, and how they pertain to external contractors and internal resources: - Enforce workplace safety at all times. Use event-free tools.
- Ensure environmental aspects are considered on job sites.
- Act as contractor Sponsor on behalf of client.
- Assist in preparation of contract documents and contractor selection. Ensure that all data pertaining to hazard issues such as asbestos and the rules on hiring contractors to perform such work at CRL is included.
- Assist the construction team in the development of work plans instructing internal resource support assigned to the contract (temp. services, connections, inspections).
- Arrange for contractor employees to attend CRL Construction Safety Orientation training courses, and obtain all security clearances.
- Verify Contractor qualifications.
- Verify Equipment certifications.
- Maintain a daily job history log throughout the project, as required.
- Prepare or obtain general work permits, IH (Industrial Health) permits, fire safety clearances, DDCC (Digging, Drilling, and Coring Clearance) clearances, material and equipment passes and all other permits required to execute the project.
- Ensure construction boundaries are controlled.
- Anticipate demand for internal trade resources (e.g., service connections) and work with appropriate Planner for resource allocation.
- Coordinate/Supervise work to be done by internal resources and/or arrange for procurement of required materials.
- Monitor work progress and report to Project Management team as required.
- Assess work scope completion upon receipt of contractor invoices and accept invoice as CRL CFI Superintendent.
- Manage/monitor changes or modifications to the work scope using the RFI process.
- Initiate and control changes or modification the work scope using the ECC/ FCN process.
- Ensure relevant regulatory authorities and other agencies requirements are met (CNSC, TSSA, ESA, Canadian Welding Bureau, etc).
- Prepare ImpAct submissions, and participate in event investigations or root cause determinations, as required.
- Ensure all equipment being removed is controlled as per the relevant procedures.
- Ensure all equipment and components are identified and tagged as per procedures, and deliver all equipment and system data to the maintenance office for input into site maintenance system.
- Inspect workmanship to ensure contractual or project requirements are met.
- Identify the resources required to mitigate hazards and coordinate these resources.
- Coordinate all issues pertaining to the disposal of wastes generated by the project.
- Organize and conduct construction meetings along with minutes, as required.
- Ensure all record copies, warranties, manuals, operating instructions, and training, are submitted and delivered to appropriate personnel.
- Ensure all required inspections have been performed and recorded and copies submitted to the project team.
- Maintains a flexible work schedule and may be expected to work outside normal hours.
- Must exercise Due Diligence from a legal aspect.
Qualifications - Graduation from an Institute of Technology with a minimum of six years experience in the field of construction, including five years as a supervisor.
OR - Successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship in one or more relevant industrial trades and a minimum of ten years pertinent experience as a journeyman plus five years experience as a supervisor.
A CRL Construction & Field Installation (CFI) Superintendent must: - Have the ability to read and understand specifications and drawings and interpret complex construction drawings.
- Have demonstrated supervisory and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with others.
- Have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Have a working knowledge of all current applicable company regulations, safety regulations procedures and collective agreements.
- Have a willingness to undergo additional training appropriate to the position, (e.g.) computers, quality assurance, and applicable codes, supervisory and team building skills.
- Promote safety and good housekeeping practices and instruct employees in the same.
- Provide advice and mentoring to peers and other RTO staff.
- Have a good base knowledge of the National Building Code, Canada Labour Code, Canadian Electrical Code, Ontario OH&S Act & Regulations for Construction Projects, and other codes pertaining to life safety such as Ontario Regulations dealing with hazardous products such as asbestos containing materials.
- Be able to demonstrate the ability to read and interpret construction documents, technical specifications, contract conditions documents and working drawings.
- Have a good knowledge of construction management software systems such as MS Project and PM Techniques such as PERT, or other applicable programs.
- Have experience in the building, mechanical or electrical trades.
