Duties:

 

To perform the recognized duties of a journeyman Millwright, including:

 

  • Performance of preventative and predictive maintenance,- servicing and trouble shooting of systems and equipment.
  • Reading and interpretation of work-related instructions and materials.  Use of clear verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work within the requirements of Quality Assurance program/ procedures.
  • Ability to operate a drill press, hacksaw, a bolt threaded, lathe, pipe threaded, and other shop machinery in order to make repairs and fashion small parts.
  • Design and improvise special tools and attachments for jobs not encountered in the ordinary industrial field, which includes installation and repair work in unique work environments.
  • Familiarity with the tolerances of running shrinking, or press fits for shafts, bushings and keys.
  • Correct packaging of equipment and machinery for shipping.
  • To carry out the commonly recognized methods of rigging, handling and transporting of heavy machines or equipment, cable and rope splicing.
  • To install heavy equipment accurately.  Including: levelling, alignment and anchoring.
  • Use drawings, to assemble and erect any structure or equipment, line up shafting and couplings, etc.
  • Recognition of mechanical faults in equipment and machines used at AECL and ability to carry out necessary repairs.
  • Dismantling, repair and assembly of standard machines, including operating equipment such as: pumps, blowers, fans, hoists, cranes, etc.
  • Use of sensitive measuring equipment such as callipers, feelers and micrometers.
  • To keep a clean and safe working area.
  • To take all necessary safety precautions required to protect himself and others from the harmful effects of asbestos and other materials used in his work.
  • To observe all general plant regulations including safety and health regulations.
  • To assist in the training of apprentices or other employees as required.
  • Should possess the ability to adapt to new technology and changes within the trade.
  • Must possess a complete set of required millwright tools.
  • To carry out pertinent duties as required.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Some secondary school training or a combination of elementary school and some technical training.
  • Must have completed an approved apprenticeship program or equivalent and qualified as a journeyman millwright.
  • Must be a qualified journeyman, and show ability in field applications.
  • Must possess the ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Must be capable of working with a minimum of supervision.
