Duties:

 

Reporting to the Manager, Mechanical Systems, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing and modifying test-rigs, special tools, assemblies and components to be used in the replacement of feeders in operating plants.

 

·         Participate in field implementation of Mechanical Systems Projects such as Feeder Replacement (includes overseas sites, and durations ranging from a few days to several weeks).

·         Develop and supervise implementation of complex in-situ weld repair procedures and supervise major repair/ replacement activities when required

·         Develop, write and review new welding procedures and techniques specifically for automatic and semi-automating welding for items such as Instrumentation tubing, Dry Storage Containers, Fuel channel replacement.

·         Design customized automated welding equipment.

·         Lead and direct activities as required in mechanical testing, heat treatment, and weld failure analysis

·         Estimate welding time and material, on proposals and schedules

·         Capable to act as a trouble-shooter on welding related processes and equipments.

·         Make recommendations on the modification of equipment or procedures to meet requirements.

·         Perform duties in a radiation environment (which may include equipment decontamination) as the work or project requires.

 

Qualifications:

 

·         Relevant Honours degree from a university of recognized standing plus a minimum of 3 to 5 years practical experience.

·         PEO license is a requirement

·         Must have knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and familiar with CSA Standards.

·         Having good knowledge of CANDU Feeders pipes, and familiar with CANDU systems in general.

·         Proven experience with project leadership (demonstrated good judgement and leadership skills) and a Team builder.

·         Proven ability to work independently, but not in isolation, with minimal supervision.

·         Field experience at CANDU nuclear plants or equivalent.

·         Familiarity with engineering software tools such as Solid Edge, and the ability to understand and apply them in determining solutions to varied inspection and maintenance activities, including but not limited to CANDU feeder replacement.

·         Sound understanding of Engineering principles and their practical application are required.

·         Qualifies and is willing to be designated as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).

·         Radiation Protection Training at the AECL Group 3 level or equivalent an asset.

·         Proven effective performance in a multi-discipline team environment.

·         Proven self-starter, motivated, and good people skills to work with peers, internal and external clients.

·         Results oriented, takes ownership of tasks assigned.

·         Good working knowledge contractual and commercial project requirements an asset.

·         Must be able to work to tight deadlines and financial controls.

·         A thorough knowledge of CPFS QA processes

·         Proven excellent written and oral communication skills.
