Description:

Duties:

·         Perform assembly and test of retubing equipment and systems. The equipment is typically used for reactor component and feeder removal and re-installation. 

·         Specialist Tech will perform technical supervision of others within the work unit.

·         Occasionally perform duties in a radiation environment (including equipment decontamination) as well as environments with conventional hazards.

·         Assist the supervisor in supporting development programs for new or improved fuel handling components.

·         Assist in preparation of specifications, procedures and acceptance standards within AECL.

·         Work within a multi-disciplinary team of AECL employees engaged in retubing  equipment design, development, testing, manufacturing and supply.

·         Understand and perform work based on standard procedures. Comply with AECL QA standard and prepare documentation work processes as necessary.

·         Perform day-to-day “hands on” type of work such as assembly, testing, operation and maintenance of mock-ups, tools and equipment.

·         Record and analyze test results and perform investigations as appropriate.

·         Prepare, modify or contribute to technical documents, including drawings, designs and procedures.

·         May perform safety assessments and prepare work permits.

·         Interact effectively with customers and suppliers.

·         May assist in the development of engineering processes, which may include engineering procurement, design and maintenance.

·         Plan, organize and carry out work in their field.

·         Provide direction to others in their technical field.

·         Provide training to others on specific processes or procedures.

 

 

Qualifications:

·         Minimum requirements are graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology, or equivalent formal education, in a field relevant to the position and normally has 6-8 years of pertinent technological experience (more than 8 years for L4) OR secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent and normally has 10-12 years (more than 15 years for L4) of pertinent and progressive experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/ or training.

·         Field experience in an industrial plant is an asset.

·         Previous training and experience in robotics, mechantronics, fuel handling or custom machinery is required

·         Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) designation with Radiation Protection Training at Level 3 or willing to be designated as a Nuclear Energy Worker.

·         Must be effective in a multi-discipline team environment.

·         Proven initiative and motivation, and good people skills to work with peers as well internal and external customers and suppliers.

·         Results oriented, takes ownership of tasks assigned.

·         Must be able to work to tight deadlines and financial controls.

·         Familiarity with AECL QA processes or equivalent.

·         Proven written and oral communication skills.
