Summary
The Inspection & Field Services Department of AECL requires Mechanical Technicians/Technologists to work in the Fuel Channel Field Services Section of the branch. The branch provides fuel channel field services at domestic and foreign CANDU stations. The technologists/technicians will function as team members and work on assembly and testing of systems and equipment required for the implementation phase. During the field execution the candidates will participate in set-up, maintenance, testing operation, teardown, decontamination and refurbishment of AECL equipment. These positions require entering the operating island, containment and other such areas where there is potential for exposure to radiation hazards.

Duties:
· Contributes to a multi-disciplinary team performing tasks at AECL’s Sheridan Park offices or at sites and may provide advise and consultation to others in their area of technical specialty.
· Oversee/carry out functional/commissioning checks and documenting results.
· Coordinate with other disciplines on related items.
· Maintain, configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot mechanical equipment.
· Review and comment on the work performed by the team to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of technical information and documentation.
· Ensures the work performed meets the quality requirements in accordance with the QA programs and manuals.
· Contribute to the preparation of work scopes, design requirements, and design plans.
· Perform plant walk downs in support of work during the mobilization and implementation phases and provide input and support to the appropriate groups.
· Analyses design requirements, experimental plans, standard processes, etc. and may propose appropriate alternatives.
· Provides advice and consultation to others in their own technical speciality. May also be expected to demonstrate leadership on specific assignments.
· Assists staff in trouble shooting technical difficulties by providing specialized knowledge in area of expertise and adapting to changing site conditions.
· Assists in conflict resolution by encouraging communication, making recommendations, and fostering positive team dynamics
· Interprets work assignment instructions; selects standard procedures, techniques and equipment, establishes and executes work sequence
· Independently conducts or co-ordinates complex projects, seeking source materials and finds original solutions to complex problems
· Obtains and understands job requirements including liaising with the client obtaining authorization to proceed, and planning and scheduling the work.
· Participate in developing new work projects for the Branch as opportunities may present themselves.
Qualifications:
· Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology, or equivalent formal education, in a Mechanical Engineering Technology and normally has over 6 years of pertinent technological experience.
· Demonstrated ability to make a substantial contribution to the executions of field services initiatives.
· Demonstrated ability in mechanical technology as well as good understanding CANDU systems including Fuel channels, Feeders, Steam Generators, and others as required.
· Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
· Demonstrates sound judgement, possesses a keen sense of responsibility, and is reliable and thorough in carrying out duties.
· Must possess strong oral communication skills and be effectiveness in creating and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships.
· Experience at CANDU sites executing work activities in a radiation environment
· Must be comfortable interfacing with CANDU clients during work execution and other resource groups in AECL who support field Services.
· Must understand technical issues and act timely to assist the team in resolve issues and reach a resolution.
· Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable and to work under tight schedules in a fast paced environment.
· Must be available outside normal working hours, willing to work shift work, and travel to sites on short notice to respond to urgent service issues
· Must be willing to work in a radiation environment and be designated a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW)

· Experience in the following core areas:
o Single Fuel Channel Replacement
o Calandria Tube Replacement
o Fuel Channel Assembly, including End Fitting to Pressure Tube Rolled Joints
