Duties:
The Montreal Engineering Branch is responsible for the provision of engineering and analytical services in the areas of Waste Management, Spent Fuel Dry Storage and Process Related systems.
Montreal Engineering has an important role to play in developing and designing waste storage systems, handling equipment and components for the Chalk River site and CANDU6 NPPs, particularly Spent Fuel Dry Storage and retube waste storage. The Team Lead, Process & Mechanical, Montreal, reports to the Section Head, Process & Mechanical, Montreal, and is accountable to assist in the leadership and supervision of a section of approximately 8 staff working on the provision of engineering services for the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of waste handling equipment and related components. This includes, but is not limited to:
· Preparation of Waste Dry Storage Systems and components, Design Concept Decisions, Design Requirements, Design Manuals, Technical Specifications, Installation Specifications and Operating Procedures.
· Detailed engineering of Waste Dry Storage Systems and components.
· Procurement Engineering for the Waste Handling Equipment and components (including EQR preparation, technical support, review of vendor's documentation and evaluation of design deviations).
· Provide design-engineering support during construction, commissioning and operation of waste storage facilities.
· Assist in planning and coordinating the work of the section.
· Assisting in managing the day-to-day activities within the section and assigning work and allocating section resources.
· Prepare technical proposals and engineering work plans.
· Assist the Section Head in performing the Team/Technical leadership role.
· Technical review of documents prepared by the section.
· Co-ordinate with other interfacing groups within AECL in support of projects and jobs.
· Interface with customer's technical staff on a regular basis in the pursuit of work for the Section.
· Provide support, coaching and mentoring to section staff.
Qualifications:
· Engineering degree from a university of recognized standing, or, though being a licensed Engineer in the Province of Quebec is not a requirement, it is acceptable in lieu of an engineering degree.
· Possesses a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
· The incumbent should have a working knowledge of the CANDU reactor and research reactor spent fuels and wastes, and related dry storage techniques.
· A general knowledge of fabrication techniques applicable to mechanical components and mechanisms particularly shielding and waste handling equipment such as transfer flasks, and familiarity with degradation mechanisms applicable to operation in nuclear environment is desirable.

· Knowledgeable in ASME and CSA design codes related to storage of spent nuclear fuel and high level radioactive waste.
· Demonstrated supervisory skills in ensuring delivery of engineered solutions to multiple customers that meet the quality requirements on schedule and within budget.
· Excellent communications skills in both official languages (oral and written), ability to effectively interface with staff, project management and customers.
· Good judgment, initiative, drive and resourcefulness.
· Must be willing to travel to CANDU sites and be willing to be qualified as a Nuclear Energy Worker.
