Description:

| Duties: These positions are required to provide remote controlled and automated tooling for the replacement of nuclear reactor core tubes and other related components of CANDU Reactors. These electrical and mechanical positions work on all aspects of retube systems and tools including engineering, tooling assessments, design, assembly, testing, field support and refurbishment. This includes, but is not limited to: - Perform assembly and test of retubing equipment and systems. The equipment is typically used for reactor component and feeder removal and re-installation.
- Senior Techs will perform technical supervision of others within the work unit.
- Occasionally perform duties in a radiation environment (including equipment decontamination) as well as environments with conventional hazards.
- Assist the supervisor in supporting development programs for new or improved tooling and system components.
- Assist in preparation of specifications, procedures and acceptance standards.
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team of employees engaged in retubing equipment design, development, testing, manufacturing, supply, operation and troubleshooting.
- Understand and perform work based on standard procedures. Comply with AECL QA standards and prepare documentation work processes as necessary.
- Perform day-to-day "hands on" type of work such as assembly, testing, operation and maintenance of mock-ups, tools and equipment.
- Record and analyze test results and perform investigations as appropriate.
- Prepare, modify or contribute to technical documents, including drawings, designs and procedures.
- May perform safety assessments and prepare work permits.
- Interact effectively with customers and suppliers.
- May assist in the development of engineering processes, which may include engineering procurement, design and maintenance.
- Plan, organize and carry out work in their field.
- Provide direction to others in their technical field.
- Provide training to others on specific processes or procedures.
Qualifications: - Minimum requirements are graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology, or equivalent formal education, in a field relevant to the position and normally 2 to 8 years of pertinent technological experience OR secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent and normally 8 to 12 years of pertinent and progressive experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and / or training.
- Field experience in a nuclear or industrial plant is an asset.
- Familiarity with video monitoring, voice communication and PLC technology is an asset.
- Previous training and experience in robotics, mechatronics, automated or custom machinery is required.
- Must be willing to work in a radiation environment, be designated a Nuclear Energy Worker and receive Radiation Protection Training.
- Must be driven by customer needs, obsessed by Quality, Excellence, and Safety; take responsibility and accountability, and engage in open and honest communication.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable and to work under tight schedules in a fast paced environment. Must be available outside normal working hours, willing to work occasional shift work, and travel to domestic and foreign sites on short notice to respond to urgent issues.
- Must be effective in a multi-discipline team environment.
- Proven initiative and motivation, and good people skills to work with peers as well internal and external customers and suppliers.
- Familiarity with relevant parts of ASME, CGSB, CSA standards is an asset.
- Results oriented, takes ownership of tasks assigned.
- Must be able to work to tight deadlines and financial controls.
- Must be willing to work to rigorous QA processes.
- Must be able and willing to prepare and update technical reports, specifications, memoranda, procedures and other documents.
- Proven written and oral communication skills.
