The incumbent will conduct research on the biological effects of ionizing radiation as they relate to the radiological protection of the public and workers, to nuclear medicine applications and radiotherapy. He/she will participate in the existing radiobiological research program, but will also be expected to develop new projects that are focused on in vivo tissue and systemic responses to low-dose radiation – including on inflammatory and immune responses – and their relationship to carcinogenesis. The incumbent will report to the Branch Manager through the leader of the radiobiology team.

The incumbent will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day supervision and management of research activities that have been approved/ assigned to him/her by the Branch Manager. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Supporting existing, as well as proposing and managing new research projects and conducting biological research in areas relevant to cell, tissue and organism responses to ionizing radiation and radiation risk assessment.
  • Analyzing the results of the team's scientific research and writing articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals, as well as research reports for internal or external customers.
  • Providing technical guidance on-the-job training and leadership for technical staff, including conducting yearly Performance Assessments.
  • Submitting budgets for research proposals and overseeing group budgets and expenditures.
  • Producing routine administrative, progress and technical reports.
  • Approving working procedures, including quality verification activities.
  • Insuring that all activities are carried out with due diligence relative to established Quality Assurance/Quality Control requirements and Standard Operating Procedures, applicable environmental and safety regulations and requirements (industrial and radiological), and company policies and procedures (including relevant labour contracts).
  • Providing assistance to the Branch Manager when requested.


  • PhD degree in a relevant Biological /Biochemical discipline from a university of recognized standing
  • or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization
  • A minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral experience in the field is desirable.
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in a similar research environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience in at least one of the following areas: Cell and Tissue Biology and Pathology, Biochemistry, Immunology, in vivo animal models of tissue pathology as they relate to questions in Radiobiology
  • Demonstrated ability to publish his/her research results as lead or senior author in peer-reviewed scientific literature.
