Director, Underwriting – Construction (Burbank)

We currently have an opening for a Director of Underwriting in our Burbank, CA office.
Role Purpose:
Directly accountable for the attainment of assigned marketing and underwriting goals from assigned business unit.
Key Responsibilities:
· Independently analyzes new and renewal business within a designated underwriting authority.
· Makes decisions regarding the selection and pricing of profitable business through analysis of available facts and resources. Analyzes loss control information when determining account acceptability.
· Monitors results of business written on an ongoing basis to ensure profitability.
· Responds to inquiries with a sense of urgency to ensure outstanding and timely customer service to producers and policyholders.
- Coordinates, directs and carries out customer services personally to maintain long-term mutually beneficial relationships with our customers.
- Responsible for skilled technical administration of policy coverages.
- Provides expertise in all technical areas of policy coverages commensurate with experience required for the position. Acts as a resource to internal and external contacts.
- Manages various aspects of large international/global accounts.
- Maintains effective relationships with producers on assigned accounts. Seeks, attracts and develops new and renewal business opportunities with these and other producers.
- Has knowledge of global exposures and keeps informed on global economic and political developments which have a bearing on underwriting decisions
- Has knowledge of alternative risk financing methods such as, but not limited to, Captive Accounts, Deductible Funding Programs and Self Insured Retention.
- Provides direction and training to Underwriting Assistants.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- The ideal candidate will have 14 years of large inland marine/builders risk account experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent work experience.
- Must be knowledgeable with marketplace and brokers.
- Must have excellent written, verbal, negotiation and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Word and Excel is required.
- Experience in technical lines of underwriting is mandatory
