Summer Intern Program:

 

The Ball Aerospace Internship Program is a ten week summer program that provides candidates with:

There are many recreational opportunities along the Colorado Front Range.  Our state is famous for its skiing, hiking, biking, mountain climbing and beautiful scenery.  We are also just 30 minutes from Denver, with access to all of the amenities that the mile high city has to offer.  

 

Over the course of a summer session, students are encouraged to participate in social and recreational activities, many of which are organized by the college relations department.  Mentors and department co-workers enjoy spending time with students at many of the activities.

 

What You´ll Do as an Intern:

 

  • Work in a team environment assisting in the structural analysis and design of spacecraft, instruments, mechanisms, and/or optics.
  • Communicate your analysis findings to engineers in other disciplines such as mechanical design, thermal, optics, and systems.  
  • Tasks may include analyzing stresses from launch accelerations or thermal environments, determining dynamic modes, evaluating the distortion of optics, or writing code to improve the efficiency of the structural engineering group. 

Additional Requirements: 

 

  • Coursework in statics, dynamics, strength of materials, and linear algebra
  • Experience with at least one scientific programming language
  • Experience in finite element analysis and CAD a plus
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated interest in design and analysis through school projects and hobbies
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools

What You´ll Need:

  • Completion of Junior year toward a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering
  • Enrollment in a degree program for the Fall 2010 semester
