Summer Intern Program:

 

The Ball Aerospace Internship Program is a ten week summer program that provides candidates with:

Over the course of a summer session, students are encouraged to participate in social and recreational activities, many of which are organized by the college relations department.  Mentors and department co-workers enjoy spending time with students at many of the activities. 

Ball Aerospace's Albuquerque office, located near Kirtland Air Force Base, primarily supports the Air Force Research Laboratory's Directed Energy and Space Vehicle Directorates, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and the Air Force.

Our Albuquerque employees specialize in providing solutions in space control, directed energy research, experimentation, and analysis. Our space control effort ensures that systems carrying Department of Defense data are able to operate through specified threats by developing, demonstrating, and documenting technologies appropriate for current and next generation satellite systems.

Systems Engineering Solutions provides technical and professional services to defense, intelligence, homeland security and space science markets.

 

What You´ll Do as an Intern:

 

  • You will be responsible for helping to test a multi-physics, multi-dimensional, parallel fluid-structure-interaction (FSI) software. 

What You´ll Need:

  • Primary requirement is enthusiasm to study and learn.
  • Intern will receive mentoring but will need to be a self-starter, progressing without significant direct supervision.
  • Knowledge required includes software development and testing experience. 
  • Experience with C/C++.
  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree and current enrollment in a graduate degree program in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering or any of the Physical Sciences.
  • Enrollment in an (undergraduate or graduate) degree program for Fall 2010

Highly Desired (but not required):

  • Experience with High Performance Computing (HPC)
  • Familiarity with MPI, PETSc and/or Trilinos.
  • Experience with UNIX operating system.
  • Python, Perl, and/or Shell scripting
