About the Role

The Online Category Manager (OCM) for futureshop.ca is the subject matter expert with regards to the online shopping and research experience. He/she brings online and cross-channel synchronization expertise to the development and execution of retail and promotional plans as they pertain to the assigned product categories.

The OCM will work in conjunction with key players including: retail merchants, traditional/online marketing managers, operators, customer service and all e-commerce related functions to manage online promotions, sales budgets and marketing plans – ensuring the cross-channel synchronization of retail pricing, promotions and programs as they pertain to the products published on www.futureshop.ca. He/she will aim to achieve or exceed budgeted sales and profitability goals for the online store / departments as well as be the driving force behind multi-channel integration.

Key Responsibilities

Business Performance Management

  • Use BPM weekly reporting to identify performance outliers and diagnose business performance at the class or sub-class level.
  • Studies & analyzes in-depth the e-tail market – taking into account site functionality/new industry development, product trends, consumer needs and historical performance; acquires superior knowledge in these areas and applies it to work, in order to provide in a timely fashion the best value, technology & information to the customer.
  • Meet weekly with Senior Manager, Inventory Analyst, Online Category Analyst/Asst Online Category Analyst to discuss performance diagnosis and determine action items
  • Maintain and monitor class/sub-class action plan
  • Communicate action items to Senior Manager
  • Execute action items as defined on action plan
  • Update action items as completed or revised
  • Communicate business diagnosis and action plan updates to Senior Manager
  • Initiates and helps develop business requirements on new IT initiatives. Works closely with the eCommerce IT group to resolve technical issues as they pertain to the operations of the Web store.

 

Department Planning and Strategy

  • Plan and develop strategic marketing plans with the “traditional” Merchandise Manager to provide the best multi channel shopping experience to the customer (content, product mix, pricing, etc).  
  • Plan and develop promotional plans with the “traditional” Merchandise Manager to drive department sales

Futureshop.ca Planning and Strategy

  • Plan and develop strategic marketing plans to provide the best multi channel shopping experience to the customer (content, product mix, pricing, etc).  
  • Plan and develop promotional plans to drive sales
  • Understands competitors’ business models and promotional tactics.
  • Study and analyze key performance indicators of customers’ behaviour online.
  • Works closely with members of the customer experience group and traditional merchants

Execution

  • Collaborates w/ the traditional Merchants in the development of sales and gross profit annual budgets as well as the execution of online plans to achieve monthly sales and operating profit targetsManages forecasts, promotions, feature product selection and merchandising; manages and owns the selection of newsletter items in keeping with the corporate flyer.
  • Provides direction/guidance to the Online Category Analyst/Asst Online Category Manager re: weekly promotion creation, feature product entry, and overall merchandising of the site. 
  • Works with the e-inventory group and e-content group to maximize inventory turns, clearance management and improve product content. 

Education and Skills

  • 3 – 4 years experience eCommerce or product management in a large retail environment
  • Business degree with a focus on e-Commerce or marketing
