The System Specialist’s role is to ensure proper computer operation so that end users can accomplish business tasks. They are responsible for the daily operations and assisting in the planning, development, implementation, and support of the organization’s Computer Information Systems. This includes actively resolving end user help requests within established SLAs as well as ensuring the availability of information, applications and systems that end users need to accomplish their mission.
Associate’s degree, or equivalent experience in Computer Science required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
3+ years network/desktop work experience preferred.
Experience with Microsoft related desktop and server operating systems preferred.
Technical knowledge in hardware/software and related technologies in several areas preferred.
Required to develop expertise in those areas of IT that are critical to business unit performance.
Attend courses, seminars, conferences, and participate in user groups to maintain and increase their level of knowledge regarding the industry, technologies, and applications appropriate to the IT & environment in which they work. Follow instructions and work constructively with others.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Strong documentation skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening and questioning skills.
Demonstrate ability to work on projects or assignments and prepare and present reports as required.
Maintain awareness of all IT policies, guidelines and procedures, and comply with them.
Support all aspects of microcomputer based networks and telecommunications infrastructure through use of vendor software tools and application of technical knowledge and expertise.
Develop, maintain and implement documentation and operating procedures, to include check lists, network diagram that accurately reflects the physical and logical location of all nodes, servers and peripherals, with their names and addresses.
Contribute to the effective and timely implementation of servers, desktop/wireless based network equipment.
Maintain system connectivity and communication between the Hospital’s various systems and remote locations.
Assists in research, development, testing, and implementation of new networking functions, technologies, applications and/or systems used throughout the organization.
Ensure that all user requests for information access are satisfied, while maintaining the appropriate degree of integrity, access authorization, and confidentiality factors as required by HIPAA regulations.
Maintain a secure IT environment i.e., telecommunications infrastructure, data integrity, applications and operating systems access security as pertains to projects and areas of responsibility.
Perform service desk and on-call responsibilities on a scheduled rotation basis, fielding incoming requests to the Service Desk via both telephone and e-mail to ensure courteous, timely and effective resolution to end user issues.
Record, track and document the service desk request problem-solving process, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made, and actions taken, through to final resolution.
Establish and maintain metrics appropriate to the performance of the IT systems in their area of responsibility.
