Job Summary:

Screen, schedule and coordinate outpatient appointments with the physicians’ offices for ancillary departments and elective nursing procedures. Prepare elective admission charts. Receive and write physician orders for elective admissions and procedures. Review local medical review policies and assigns codes. Provides education to medical staff and ancillary departments when necessary regarding medical necessity.

 

Job Requirements:

Minimum Education

Current Illinois Registered Nurse Licensure required.

Minimum Work Experience

Minimum of two years nursing experience required, preferably with some Surgical Care and Physician Office experience.

Required Skills

Basic Computer Operation with good keyboarding skills.

Excellent oral and written communications skills required.

 

Essential Functions:

Schedule outpatient appointments.

Coordinate them so that they are convenient for the patients and workable for the provider (ancillary departments).

Ensure that any preliminary tests are scheduled and/or the results obtained prior to the appointment date/time. Schedule elective procedures.

Obtain an appropriate diagnosis for the procedure.

Initiate the physician orders and pre op check lists.

Notify the Ambulatory Care staff and OB staff of those needing to be seen for pre op visits.

Prepare charts for elective procedures and surgeries.

Obtain the H&P’s; work up results, outstanding orders and permits.

Review the results and report any abnormalities.

Verify the correct surgical site (including left or right) and procedure on the orders and permit.

Review Local Medical Review Policies (LMRP’s) and assign codes to the orders/appointments of Medicare patients.

Provide education (coaching) to medical staff and ancillary departments when necessary regarding Medical Necessity.

Confirm certain tests and verify the patient has received and understands the proper instructions.

Field incoming calls/questions concerning the prices of procedures/tests by utilizing the ProMas and Cerner application-Price Inquiry.

Obtain outpatient orders (for ancillary tests). Co-sign them if necessary and verify them for consistency and accuracy. (Same order/same appointment)Supervise the LPN.
