Job Summary:

This position will be actively involved in characterization of Lead to Optimization stage research compounds to support discovery chemistry, DMPK, process chemistry, and pharmacology efforts by identifying compounds with appropriate drug like properties and providing acceptable formulation for in vivo evaluations. Experiences in preformulation, HPLC/UPLC, solid state characterization and physiochemical evaluation of small molecule drug candidate are highly required. The ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdepartmental team environment is essential to this role.

• Interface with Discovery Research in the evaluation of candidate molecules for pharmaceutical development
• Conduct experiments to evaluate pharmaceutical properties such as solubility, stability, and crystallinity of small molecule drug candidates
• Lead solid state characterization evaluation activities such as screening and selection of salts and polymorphs
• Assist with development and implementation of solubilizing preclinical formulations to support toxicology, pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamics and other in vivo studies
• Plan and perform laboratory experiments, collect and analyze data, and maintain laboratory notebooks


• BS with 4+ years experience or MS with 1+ year experience in pharmaceutical sciences, analytical chemistry or chemical engineering.
• Demonstrated experience with successfully characterization small molecule in early and late stages of development programs
• Expertise with instrumentation required for physiochemical and pre-formulation evaluations (e.g. DSC, TGA, DVS, XRPD, HPLC/UPLC, Microscopy)
• Experience developing HPLC/UPLC method is required
• Ability to work with a wide range of disciplines required to get a drug from discovery through clinical development
