DRS C3 & Aviation is seeking a dynamic individual as a Metal Structure Worker. This individual will work with the Air Force and required resources to achieve project objectives to include SOW requirements.
Position Summary
Individual will fabricate, install, remove, and repair heavy steel structures. Individual will operate various power tools used to cut and dig foundations. Individual will operate heavy equipment as needed for installation, removal and/or relocation of shop machinery and equipment. Individual will interpret various drawings. Individual will inspect and evaluate structural damage.
Duties and Responsibilities
Fabricates, installs, relocates, repairs, and modifies heavy steel structures such as monorails, catwalks, bridge cranes, aircraft stands, raceways, scaffolds, jigs and the like from heavy metal angle-iron, I-beams and plate metal. Fabricates and erects portable steel structures such as metal mezzanines, wire cages, booths, and bins. Installs, removes and/or relocates heavy industrial shop machinery and equipment. Operates pneumatic hammers, drills, saws and heavy hand tools. Cuts through concrete floors and digs foundations for structures or equipment. Operate front-end loaders, backhoes, uni-loaders, motor graders, dump trucks, and excavators for foundation excavation and preparation. Pours concrete in precise location following engineering blueprints, insuring correct depth and size are obtained. Uses plumb bobs, precision level, transits, semi-precision and machinists' levels to align and level machinery as it is being installed and/or because it has become misaligned through use. Operates power saw, band saw, and power punch to cut and form component parts needed for installation. Operate crane, forklift, and tractor trailer (40-foot flat beds) as needed for installation, removal, and/or relocation of heavy industrial shop machinery and equipment; disassembling and assembling aircraft work stands. Interprets blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications, laying out structures according to blueprints and sketches. Adapt to new technologies affecting metal structure work. Inspects and evaluates structural damage to metal systems sufficient to plan and accomplish repairs.
Basic Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Completed Mechanic apprenticeship program
· 1-2 yrs experience as a Journeyman
· Experience and training that furnishes the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties
· Ability to use and maintain appropriate tools and equipment
· Ability to read, understand, and apply instruction and other materials related to the job
· Ability to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and work in cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time
· Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
· Must possess a valid commercial driver's license
· Must possess a valid forklift training/license
