Position Summary
The Director, Systems Engineering will be responsible for managing a 45+ person group engaged in Systems Engineering in a DoD contracting environment. Will lead the team in proposal support, requirements analysis, and management, design synthesis, documentation, including generation of Statements of Work (SOW) and specifications, project planning, technical project management, subcontract control and risk management. Also, responsible for establishing policies and procedures for performing systems engineering.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor 45+ personnel engaged in Systems Engineering, across multiple sites.
- Responsible to develop and train the staff to deliver the required capability with innovative solutions.
- Accountable for the delivery of cost, schedule, quality and technical performance of the system engineering organization.
- An agent for change and continuous process improvement, utilizing data driven and analytical techniques.
- Analyzes, determines and specifies subsystems or system requirements to assure performance and integration with total or other systems.
- Applies knowledge of hardware, software, operational analysis and test and integration to assure system concept feasibility and integrity.
- Plans, develops, administers and supports management plans and controls that assure accomplishment of defined objectives (including, but not limited to: coding, testing, debugging, configuring, and documenting operating systems).
- Engages in analytical studies, conceptual design and development of system and subsystems as defined by customer specifications.
· Reviews subsystems and component specifications and test procedures to ascertain compliance with overall system requirements.
· Develops and analyzes tradeoff and alternative approaches to subsystem or system development problems to determine best approach for meeting technical requirements at minimum cost and consistent with delivery dates.
· Prepares system test plans and procedures consistent with specification requirements mandated at the developmental, prototype, pre-production and production phases.
· Strong customer focus, maintains a relationship with the customer as a technical liaison.
· Recommends technical programs for improving and adapting existing subsystems and systems for application to new and future customer requirements.
· Coordinates with technical counterpart at various DRS operations to insure conformance to established practices and to take advantage of increased benefits derived from new techniques of analyses.
· Recommends selection, approval, and acquisition of hardware, software, networking components, and services.
· Supervises, Installs, configures, and tests work stations with supporting hardware, software, and networking components as needed.
· Define the customer needs and required functionality.
· Define the architecture, external interfaces and functional description of the system.
· Responsible for system, product and feature requirements, design synthesis and system validation.
· Ensure that the systems remain superior and cost competitive in the marketplace.
· Responsible for system performance, functional operation and practical implementation.
· Responsible for technical evaluations of major system enhancements and major new customer requirements.
· Be the key driver in all system architecture activities for standardization.
· Provide system level technical support in customer meetings.
Basic Qualifications
- Position requires BS/MS in SE, EE, Physics, Computer Science or similar field.
- Candidate must have hands-on knowledge of Systems Engineering methods and tools with 10+ year’s systems engineering experience in DoD contracting environment. Experience working as an individual contributor and as a leader.?
- Must be able travel both domestically and internationally.
- US citizenship is required. Applicant selected will be subject to a security investigation and must be eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge
- Must have knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: Radar Systems, Sonar Systems, Command and Control, Combat Systems, Displays, Networks, Requirements Management Tools, and Automated Test Tools.
- Familiarity with Requisite Pro and/or DOORS requirements management tool, Object Oriented System Engineering Methods and the Rational Unified Process (RUP).
- Knowledge of CMMI a plus
- Advanced training in Systems Engineering principles and techniques preferred.
- Experience working in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment with company, teammates and subcontractors.
