DRS Signal Solutions, Inc. specializes in communications-surveillance products that meld both RF and DSP technologies and is a leading worldwide supplier of high-quality signal-intercept equipment. We provide creative RF solutions to the Department of Defense and prime contractors. The facility designs and manufactures HF, VHF, and SHF tuners and receivers, demodulators, direction finders and wireless intercept solutions.
We operate on a 9/80 work schedule, all employees work 80 hrs in 9 days and have every other Friday off.
Title: Sr. Systems Engineer - SIGINT/ELINT – Gaithersburg MD
Position Summary: A key technical authority for products within the Open Architecture business area and customer interface for technical systems engineering processes. Will connect customer needs to technical solutions. Requires expert knowledge of the receiver technologies involved in signals collection and the associated signals intelligence applications.
Systems engineering tasks include: requirements definition, functional analysis, project planning, product roadmap planning, design synthesis, and architecture development. Works with design, development, integration, and test teams as appropriate to deliver the best products and solutions.
Essential Functions of the Job:
System Analysis and Design
· Identify and understand customer/market needs for SIGINT/ELINT products.
Product Concept Design
· Contribute to product roadmap incorporating customer funded and internally funded projects.
· Identify the technology elements that will improve products and enable new capabilities
· Centralize multiple customers’ mission needs to incorporate solutions in common software and hardware solutions, maximizing design reuse and minimizing the time to market.
Project Planning and Development
· Collaborate with project/program management and cross-functional design team to accurately estimate and plan development effort
· Detailed digital design, to include FPGA sizing/estimation, VHDL simulation & coding, schematic capture, PCB layout, hardware test and verification.
· Develop comprehensive test plans that insure compliance with specification. This could include RF performance tests, digital hardware tests, software verification, EMI/EMC tests, environmental screening, etc.
Technical Mentoring, Peer Reviews, and Design Knowledge
Basic Qualifications:
Demonstrated skill in developing leading edge SIGINT products and systems with significant RF, and digital hardware content.
- Bachelor’s in electrical engineering and 5+ years of successful demonstrated experience in new product development projects; leveraging internal and external resources to achieve success.
- Demonstrated entrepreneurship in rapid development utilizing new technology.
- FPGA-based digital hardware/firmware development. Knowledge of Xilinx (or similar) design tools.
- Strong verbal and written communicator.
- Track record of creating innovative solutions to complex technical problems and resolving less complex issues in an expeditious, efficient and timely manner.
- US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a security clearance to the TS-SI level is required.
