Purpose:

We currently have three openings for junior software engineers to contribute in the development of the next generation of the Shipboard Integrated Communication System (SHINCOM) product line.

 

·         Software Developer to work on the Operation Administration and Maintenance (OAM) management system, to provide effective and efficient access to information stored in databases.  Past experience in developing databases is an asset.  The position involves analyzing new system requirements, documenting, coding and testing databases for real-time applications on an embedded Linux based system

 

·         Software Developer to work on end-user terminal equipments. The position involves analyzing new feature requirements, documenting, coding and testing new features or extending existing capabilities of sophisticated embedded Linux software applications.

 

·         Software developer to work on military-specific communication link. Past experience with signaling protocol development is an asset. The position involves protocol requirement analysis, documenting, coding, protocol testing and extending existing signaling capabilities.

 

Major Roles and Responsibilities:

·         Creates source code from design specifications in accordance with a programming standard.

·         Carries out unit testing of own or other units.

·         Contributes to technical documents.

·         Documents work done in standard report formats.

·         Participates in design reviews.

·         Works under the general guidance/coaching of other Engineers.

·         Must develop technically sound work within prescribed time frames.

·         Multiplex between different projects and delivers on commitments.

·         Ability to conceptually link macro level project plans to micro level tasks.

·         Ability to demonstrate flexibility to meet business demands.

Technical Competencies:

·         Bachelor's Degree in engineering or computer science, or equivalent, from a regular or coop program.

·         Entry level to 3 years professional experience in software related projects.

·         Ability to work at different levels of software, and to integrate software and hardware.

·         Familiar with UNIX, Linux development environment and software development life cycle.

·         Basic knowledge and application of: communication protocols; real time operating systems; object-oriented design methods; real time system design methods; programming languages (C, C++, Ada); software configuration management; and graphical user interface.

·         Basic knowledge and application of communication protocols (e.g. Forwarding/Routing, QoS, IP, TCP, VoIP, SNMP, XML, BGP, RIP, etc.)

 

 

The successful candidate(s) must fulfill requirements for U.S. International Traffic
in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and
Canadian security clearance to secret.
