The International Division of DRS TSI, headquartered in Stuttgart, with offices in Europe, Southwest Asia, and the U.S., engineers and delivers communications solutions in support of military operations and security cooperation activities across Europe and Africa. Our solutions span the C4I domain and include long-haul communications, commercial SATCOM, network managed services, KM, EoIP, NOC services, IT, IA, O&M, and other professional management services.

We seek a full time Systems Engineer with core focus on IP over Satellite Communications (SATCOM) systems and solution to add to our European team.  The Systems Engineer has responsibility for the implementation of COTS IP networks and SATCOM services in collaboration with project management, engineering and implementation teams throughout CONUS and OCONUS locations.

Duties and Responsibilities

 As a specialized staff engineer for our European team, the Systems Engineer will assist senior-level government leaders and project managers with developing program requirements to assess the technical readiness of products for systems to meet government mandated requirements. They will perform communications engineering, architecture analysis, requirements identification and derivation, and prepare project documentation as needed.  The selected candidate will join our existing team and be responsible for:

·         Understand the needs of the customers and the realities, capabilities, installation, operation, and maintenance of IP network and SATCOM hardware and software systems

·         Conduct the translation of business requirements into detailed telecommunications (e.g., LAN, MAN, WAN, Voice and Video) requirements, designs, orders, and proposals

·         Participate in the analysis, design, and new construction of SATCOM systems

·         Collaborate on the implementation of IP network and SATCOM systems with engineering and implementation teams throughout CONUS and OCONUS locations

·         Perform lifecycle planning to include implementation schedules, system configuration changes, new / updates to standard operating procedures / manuals, and training needed as a result of incorporation of new systems or capabilities

 Basic Qualifications

     

·         8+ years of closely related technical experience performing systems engineering of communications systems and applications

·         Bachelors' degree in an engineering discipline (or related technical field) from an accredited University or college (an additional 4 years of directly applicable systems engineering experience may be substituted for a degree)

·         Experienced in engineering, installation, configuration, and operation of WAN/LAN technology such as Windows 2003 servers, FTP, Active Directory, Ethernet Switches, TCP/IP, SNMP, VPN Concentrators, Firewalls, DMZ's, Wireless (802.1x), QoS, Voice and Video over IP

·         Understanding of the operation and maintenance of SATCOM networks and systems, procedures, and solutions involving iDirect, and Steelhead optimization platforms

·         Strong business acumen and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, systems engineering tools, AutoCad, Visio, MS Project, etc.

US Citizenship is required. Candidates selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.  Candidates with an active DoD SECRET security clearance are preferred

Additional Desirable Skills and Knowledge

 

·         Experience supporting projects involving engineering and installation of OCONUS C4I solutions in Africa, Middle East, and Southwest Asia regions

·         Advanced knowledge of long haul communications principles and communications systems such as: Optical Carrier (OC) levels 3/12, Teleports, DOD Gateways.

·         Advanced knowledge of wireless technology such as 802.11a/b/g, line of sight, GBS.

·         Knowledge of Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), Six Sigma, and other process improvement disciplines
