Position Description (duties and responsibilities):
This candidate will be the Field Service Representative (FSR) for DRS Land Mobile Radio, (UHF, VHF, and HF) fielding and implementation projects headquartered in Afghanistan and other locations. The candidate will be a contributing member in the design, integration and implementation of local, regional and national LMR Government networks. The candidate will participate in all phases of the project life cycle. This includes analysis and design, establishing functional and technical specifications, implementation, enhancement, interoperability, testing, and validation of LMR voice and data networks. The candidate will also be required to work closely with our customers and business partners for requirement gathering in order to provide effective technical solutions. The Technician’s responsibilities include design of LMR networking infrastructure (such as base stations, receiver sites, consoles, comparators), RF coverage, system dimensioning for capacity planning including traffic analysis, evaluating network design and dimensioning, and the interoperability between agencies as required. This includes conventional as well as trunked radio networks. The FSR must provide the means for the collection, analysis, and evaluation of baseline data, and will provide input to the Team Lead and Project Director for project planning, staffing, budgeting, and reporting.
Required Qualifications:
· Functional knowledge of terrain analysis and RF propagation software applications (e.g. TAP, SPLAT!).
· Ability to produce logical and functional diagrams of networks and processes using Visio or other CAD applications.
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and MS Project .
· Eight (8)+ years of telecom systems engineering with two (2)years of specific experience in LMR systems , radio network design, with multiple technology platforms in the LMR industry.
· Functional knowledge of major vendors and vendor equipment/features. Major vendors include: Motorola, EF Johnson, ICOM, Harris.
· Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal skills are a must. High customer interaction required (e.g. gather requirements, engineer proposed solutions, make presentations, etc.).
· Functional knowledge in design/expansion/modification of LMR networks. This includes RF propagation (in all applicable bands, including microwave and broadband wireless), network interconnection, control points, consoles/comparators, and mobiles/portables (both voice and data).
· Functional knowledge in designing systems with Motorola, EF Johnson, Harris and ICOM equipment.
· Applicant must have a working knowledge of LAN/WAN and Radio over IP (ROIP) equipment, software and concepts.
· Applicant must possess aggressive/Creative Problem Solving Skills; ability to get things done in a multi-organizational environment.
· Applicant must maintain current knowledge of industry affiliation groups and associations (APCO, NASTD, etc).
· Applicant must be willing to travel to hazardous duty locations for any given length of time.
· Applicant must be a US citizen.
· Must also possess at a minimum an active SECRET clearance or higher, meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and will be subject to a government security investigation.

Desired Qualifications:
· Project Experience: Functional and Technical design skills, using object-oriented methodology.
· Intermediate level experience designing and implementing LMR networks.
