Position Summary

DRS TSI is seeking a Senior Wide Area Network (WAN) Engineer to support classified and unclassified military networks throughout Iraq. The position will be located at Camp Victory – Baghdad, Iraq. The Senior WAN Engineer duties will primarily consist of day-to-day operations, maintenance, monitoring, upgrades, troubleshooting, and repair of theater classified and unclassified tactical and strategic WANs.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Work with teams of routing and switching experts maintaining and repairing all WAN layer 3 routing devices, and provide technical support for junior grade WAN technicians
  • Provide WAN routing and switching subject matter expert support for  management and other engineers
  • Develop and implement solutions for integration, change, and improvement to the Iraq theater WAN as required
  • Perform troubleshooting of Cisco devices, related circuits, Cisco-based VPN, and network encryption devices
  • Perform troubleshooting of KG-175 TACLANE, and related network encryption devices
  • Work with other organizations to resolve problems with physical layer satellite, copper and fiber optic transmissions circuits
  • Coordinate with other military units and contractors to repair and make improvements to both the physical and logical WAN infrastructure.
  • Document network configurations, maintain diagrams, following all requisite network security, configuration and change management guidelines.
  • Monitoring of the NIPR and SIPR networks using proscribed LAN/MAN/WAN monitoring tools
  • Provide input for network performance and availability reports
  • Travel throughout theater as necessary to accomplish assigned duties
  • Maintain Iraq theater IP address space
  • Other duties as assigned

Person must have knowledge in routing, configuration, troubleshooting and support of mid to large sized network environments.  Experience working with BGP, EIGRP, OSPF is a must.

 

The candidate must be flexible and creative in adapting to environments where functional and operational objectives evolve and change rapidly. This is a very fast-paced environment.

The candidate will work under the immediate supervision of a military shift leader or other contract personnel designated by the PM. The candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Basic Qualifications

  • Four-year technical degree or equivalent experience
  • Routing Protocol knowledge to include OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and ISIS 
  • CCIE Certification Required
  • Advanced technical troubleshooting and engineering experience
  • Demonstrated self-starter and demonstrated ability to independently resolve problems, and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency with Microsoft, and other troubleshooting tools such as PING, NETSTAT, NBTSTAT, TRACEROUTE, IPCONFIG and ARP.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast paced environment with short timelines and set deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a professional and courteous manner in difficult situations
  • Ability to maintain high quality work to manage multiple critical projects
  • Ability to perform and participate in a team oriented environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of network users
  • Contributes to overall effectiveness as a team member
  • Excellent customer service skills and demeanor
  • Meet overseas medical deployment qualifications

 Additional Desirable Skills and Knowledge

 ·         SATCOM, E1, LOS, Tropo-Scatter, PIX/ASA Firewalls, Cisco IDS, GRE, ACLs, MPLS, VoIP, SNMP

  • Working knowledge and experience with Remedy, Cisco ACS, HP OpenView, Cisco Works, Solar Winds network monitoring suite (including Solar Winds engineer's edition)
  • Understanding of the function and policy of SIPR and NIPR networks
  • Clearance: Interim Secret or higher required
