Position Summary/Relocation Benefits

  

The International Division of DRS Defense Solutions, headquartered in Stuttgart and with offices in Europe, Southwest Asia, and the U.S. engineers and delivers communications solutions in support of military operations and security cooperation activities across Europe and Africa. Our solutions span the C4I domain and include long-haul communications, commercial SATCOM, network managed services, KM, EoIP, NOC services, IT, IA, O&M, and other professional management services.

We seek a Network Operations Center (NOC) Technician to add to our satellite services contract located in Stuttgart Germany.  This position will report to the NOC Manager, is located within the client's Network Operations Center (NOC), and is responsible for monitoring and control of the SPAWAR Internet Café Network and various applications for Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans. Some TDY travel to Southwest Asia may be required (<10%).

Duties and Responsibilities

The NOC Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting network and communications issues, maintaining/upgrading/monitoring network and system components, and will provide general technical assistance to SPAWAR Field Team and café users via phone calls, E-mails, and Instant Messages.  The NOC Technician will join our existing team of Technicians and be required to work a rotating shift schedule.Basic Qualifications

 

Key Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the NOC Technician will include (but are not limited to) the following tasks:

·         First level customer interface - Answer calls, E-mails, and Instant Messages from the Field technician team or the café users and take appropriate action to resolve their issue or provide technical assistance

·         Monitor the satellite network and various applications to check for any new and outstanding alarms or issues.

·         First level troubleshooting of customer/network related issues, following defined procedures

·         Responsible for opening, updating, tracking, and closing trouble tickets for any trouble issue

·         Configure remote modem option files and coordinate with field team to assist in remote site installation

·         Coordinate with Satellite Operators and Field Techs to accomplish antenna peak and polarization optimizations

·         Configure, test, and troubleshoot Voice over IP (VoIP) telephones by building configuration files and loading them onto a TFTP server

·         Administrative duties include updates of Master Station Log, various databases, spreadsheets, and reports

·         Liaison with others on issues and provide progress updates as required

·         Communicate effectively (both written and verbal) and ensure that oncoming shift has been briefed and can easily refer to a written history of the previous shift's activities

·         Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by NOC Management

 

   Basic Qualifications  

  • 7+ years of closely related experience to include: NOC operations and support, SIP, Cisco, Network Management Systems, and Trouble Ticketing tools
  • Associates degree (Bachelor's degree preferred) in engineering or technical field and/or one or more current certifications in information technology systems administration, LAN/WAN, CISCO routers, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience (4 or more years) with EUCOM, SPAWAR, or other Joint Command customers with satellite communications programs and technical operations in the Middle East and Asia locales, or Africa
  • Proficient in using MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must be willing to work a rotating NOC shift schedule
  • Excellent analytical skills, ability to adapt to new environments, excellent written and verbal communications skills and able to work under pressure
  • Excellent time management skills, attention to detail and a positive attitude and work ethic

·         US Citizenship is required.

·         Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. 

 

Additional Desirable Skills and Knowledge

 

Candidates with an active DoD SECRET security clearance are preferred.
