Position Summary/Relocation Benefits
The International Division of DRS Defense Solutions, headquartered in Stuttgart and with offices in Europe, Southwest Asia, and the U.S. engineers and delivers communications solutions in support of military operations and security cooperation activities across Europe and Africa. Our solutions span the C4I domain and include long-haul communications, commercial SATCOM, network managed services, KM, EoIP, NOC services, IT, IA, O&M, and other professional management services.
We seek a full time IP Satellite Communications Information Assurance Technician to add to our European team. The IA Technician has responsibility for maintaining and improving security posture of COTS IP networks and SATCOM services in collaboration with project management, engineering and implementation teams throughout CONUS and OCONUS locations. Some TDY travel to CONUS and Southwest Asia locations may be required (<10%).

Duties and Responsibilities
The IA Technician will join our Network Operations Center team of SATCOM technicians in Stuttgart Germany and be responsible for implementing information assurance policies/controls/monitoring/and reporting, aiding the NOC technicians with other SATCOM networking and communications issues, maintaining/upgrading/monitoring network and system components, and will provide general technical assistance to SPAWAR Internet Café field technical team and its users. Duties and responsibilities will include the following tasks:
- Work with the customer, project, and end user staff to define and implement improved controls of personally identifiable information (PII)
- Develop assessments of phishing scams, virus, malware, hacking, and other threats. Alert the customer and upon approval implement improved security measures to counter as appropriate
- Act as the lead to identify IA risk areas across system components of: hardware, software, administrative privileges, policies, standard operating procedures, and other system components. Formulate technical and operational solutions to mitigate the risks, present solutions to DRS and government personnel for approval, and implement improvements.
- Support technology assessments related to IA on all upgrades to the global system (multiple teleports, thousands of wired and wireless workstations, VOIP phones, and firewalls)
- Monitor the satellite network and various applications to check for issues relevant to information assurance
- As required provide technical support to monitoring of the network- answer calls, e-mails, and Instant Messages from the Field technician team or the café users and take appropriate action to resolve their issue or provide technical assistance
Basic Qualifications
7+ years of closely related experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering and CISSP certification
· One or more current certifications in Security+, information technology, LAN/WAN, CISCO routers, etc.
· Familiarity with the DoD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (DIACAP, DoD 8510.01)
· Familiarity with DoD information assurance controls defined in DoDD 8500.1 and DoDI 8500.2
· Familiarity with FISMA, FIPS, the NIST 800 series, OMB A-130, and other information security-related federal guidelines
· Broad knowledge of Windows and Unix operating systems, IIS and Apache Web services, SQL databases, Security Policies and Procedures Development, Security Assessment, Security Infrastructure Design/Analysis, Technical Writing, Strong Communicator, ITIL and other common frameworks
· TCP/IP Networking skills
- Experience with patch deployment and management
· US Citizenship is required
· Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Additional Desirable Skills and Knowledge
- Demonstrated experience (4 or more years) with EUCOM, SPAWAR, or other Joint Command customers with satellite communications programs and technical operations in the Middle East and Asia locales, or Africa
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Candidates with an active DoD SECRET security clearance are preferred
