Duties:
A challenging opportunity exists for permanent Journeyman Powerline Technician (PLT). Successful candidates will, under direct supervision of a field Coordinator or Lead Hand, work in the Calgary Downtown Distribution Network System. You will be involved in all activities related to the electrical construction, repair, maintenance or testing on the energized or de-energized Network System as required, up to system voltage limits. You will be required to:
- Have general knowledge of the principles involved in the construction and maintenance of underground cable installations
- Have skills in live line technique
- Perform underground splicing and terminating
- Recognize, assess and control potentially hazardous situations in the work environment
- Work comfortably in confined spaces (manholes and network vaults)
- Function effectively as an integral part of a work group
- Work safely in all conditions
- Possess knowledge of Electrical and Communications Utility Systems (A.E.C.U.C. - Safety Codes Act).
- Possess knowledge of Industry standard safe working practices
Salary:
As outlined in the IBEW contract
$43.96 per hour based on January 2010 rates
Qualifications:
The successful applicants will be qualified or be able to qualify as a Journeyman Powerline Technician (Journeyman Power Linemen) under the Alberta Manpower Development Act. Network experience would be an asset. Knowledge of Electrical Utility Systems Regulations and industry standard safe working practices is essential.
