How do I apply for a job?

Typically you will apply for a job with us online. Under the Careers tab you can find information about Nordstrom, then click Search Opportunities. Depending on the position, you will either start the online application process or be asked to submit your resume.

I applied online. How could I be sure that you received my resume?

You will receive an acknowledgment from Nordstrom once you have submitted your application or resume. The acknowledgment will be an automated, online response, or you may be contacted by phone or mail.

I applied online a couple of days ago. How long will it take before I can schedule an interview?

For most of our store positions, if you meet our qualifications, you should expect to be contacted within a few days. You are always welcome to contact the Human Resources office for the location you are interested in as well. Depending on the position, the posting could remain open for several weeks while all applications are being reviewed.

What is the interview process like and the general time frame?

If your skills and abilities match an open position, a recruiter, department manager or human resources assistant will contact you. After an initial conversation, we will let you know if there is a potential fit and set up an additional interview time.

What should I wear to my interview?

We are a fashion specialty retailer and sell a wide range of styles; however for the interview process, business professional is appropriate.

Do you have any part-time jobs?

Yes, we do offer part-time jobs, depending on the specific position.

How old do I need to be to work at Nordstrom?

Most of our positions are for people 18 years and older; however, we do employ some minors who are 16 and older.

How can I be sure that a position I find online hasn't already been filled?

Typically, we will remove a position once it has been filled or the job has been closed; however, you are more than welcome to contact the specific store location to verify available positions.

Are there opportunities available that are not listed on this site?

Many of our positions are listed online. Because we have a strong promote from within philosophy, there will be times when we look only for internal candidates.

Do you have any openings for buyers or department managers?

We have a strong promote from within philosophy and most of our buyer and department manager positions are promoted from within. Beginning your career on the selling floor in a Nordstrom Full-Line or Rack store will offer you the opportunity to advance to a department manager or buying position.

How do I find out if there are positions available in a specific store?

From the Search Careers drop-down menu, select Full-Line Stores or Nordstrom Rack. On those pages, you may select a state where you would like to work and view the open positions for our stores in that state.

Our stores are responsible for their hiring needs. If you are interested in a Full-Line Store or Nordstrom Rack position, we encourage you to Search Opportunities for the location of your choice and apply online.

Each region or location is responsible for identifying local colleges that support their needs. You can contact your nearest location for more information on your area.

For what types of positions do you recruit right out of school?

Some of the positions that we consider new graduates for include: sales, product development, including assistant designers, CAD artist, assistant technical designer as well as accounting, finance and information technologies. The specific requirements of the job will determine if a new graduate can be considered for a position.

How do I apply for a buyer position at Nordstrom?

Buyers begin on the selling floor, as salespeople. A successful selling performance and a desire to take on more responsibility can lead you to a department management role. From there, a successful department manager can move to an assistant buyer or buyer role. On occasion, we may have opportunities in our buying areas for financial planners and replenishment buyers.
