The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking a Research Technician to work with the Genome Technologies team. Working under the direction of the Investigator and senior staff, the Research Technician I will apply advanced technical knowledge and skills in the processing of biological samples for use in the most recent technologies in the field of human genetics, mainly the next generation sequencing platform.
The successful candidate will be involved in the reception, tracking, and processing of biological samples for genomic analyses. The candidate will also be required to use standard laboratory instrumentation and molecular techniques for sample quality control processes. Responsibilities will include data entry and sample tracking with extensive use of a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), aliquoting and sample storage, cell culture, providing technical support for members of the lab, documentation of experimental results, preparation of reports, presentation of scientific findings and the development and improvement of existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The Research Technician I will act as a member to the Production Samples Team and will be involved in various projects within the Genome Technologies Program.
· Minimum Bachelors degree in Molecular Biology or related specialty;
· 2-3 years of hands-on experience in Molecular Biology or related fields (genomics, genetics);
· Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team;
· Attention to detail and strong organizational skills;
· Good verbal and written communication skills;
· Proven sense of team building.
