Production Engineer

Dufferin Aggregates (DFA) is a major producer of sand, stone and gravel, operating over 15 quarries, gravel pits and distribution yards.  As a division of Holcim, DFA supplies over 12 million tonnes annually of aggregates throughout Southern Ontario.

 

Our products are used in a wide variety of construction projects such as highways, sewers and building foundations as well as providing the raw materials for concrete and asphalt production.  Some of Dufferin’s recent major contracts included supplying aggregates for the construction of the Highway 407 and the upgrades to the Pearson International Airport in Toronto.

Position Responsibilities (key duties, scope of position, goals, expectations, skill requirements, travel requirements):

·         Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Legislation and Dufferin Aggregates Health & Safety policies and procedures

·         Ensure that the necessary Health & Safety training is carried out in accordance to legislative & the Holcim pyramid requirements

·         Implement and maintain production schedules and communicate progress regularly to management and hourly employees

·         Maintain budgeted operating costs, forecasting and communicate progress regularly to management and hourly employees

·         Coordinate the production process to balance inventories to meet sales targets and customer needs

·         Create and implement short and long term mining and rehabilitation plans

·         Represent Dufferin Aggregates during site visits by the government agencies

·         Support the Property Department with efforts to provide necessary rehabilitation to the site in accordance with the approved site plans

·         Assist the Site Manager/Superintendent with special projects and company initiatives

·         Manage the produced product inventories

·         Employees may also be assigned other work as required

 

Educational Criteria:

·         Candidate must be enrolled in a post-secondary program in Civil, Mechanical, Mining Engineering or Engineering Technology

 

Working Conditions:

·         Lab and/or Field environment

 

Position Dimensions (core competences i.e., communication skills, planning, teamwork, technical knowledge, leadership, initiative):

·         Safety oriented                                            

·         Team oriented, willing to help out in all areas of the department                                                                              

·         Strong interpersonal and communication skills

·         Strong analytical skills             

·         Excellent organization skills

·         Excellent computer abilities (Microsoft Excel, Word, Project & Powerpoint). Knowledge of AutoCAD would be an asset

·         Must be able to work in a fast paced environment

·         Ability to multi-task and detail oriented

  

Other Related Experiences Required or Preferred:

 

·         Flexible work schedule

·         Strong geographical knowledge of the GTA and surrounding areas

·         Must have a valid Driver’s license
