Position Summary
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Manager, Safety will lead a team of Safety Advisors who will be located or assigned within the concrete, aggregate and cement businesses. This team will partner with local business leaders to ensure compliance and provide day-to-day leadership in the continued building of a culture of safety
Primary Responsibilities:
· Corporate Social Responsibilities
· Build strong and effective relationships with business leaders at all levels to gain sustainable commitment towards a strong culture of safety.
· Drive safety performance to world class standards
· Ensure compliance with corporate and legislative requirements.
· Develop, implement and monitor safety program activities to meet business targets and objectives.
Human Resource Excellence
· Create a high performance environment through "engaged" employees; Champion and conduct effective performance management; Coach and develop management capability for continued organizational effectiveness.
· Support/implement HR programs and policies.
Better Cost Management
· Work closely with the Corporate Safety Director to ensure continued alignment between the businesses and corporate safety mandates.
· Drive continuous improvement of safety programs by leading ongoing audit and assessment processes
· Organize and lead the organizational unit/operations to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
· Manage budgets, monitor, measure and report on operational issues; Analyze results and initiate appropriate action to achieve/exceed business objectives and targets.
· Build effective partnerships with other organizational units and shared services to maximize best practices to achieve operational excellence.
Sustainable Environment Performance
· Understand and operate in accordance with company programs, policies and legislative requirements to ensure that environmental standards and performance objective targets are met.
Permanent Market Innovation
· Work closely with various businesses and cross-functional teams to establish safety strategy, tactics and targets and review the ongoing effectiveness of the safety program.
· Develop innovative strategies to improve departmental initiatives and ensure continuous improvement.

Experience & Educational Requirements:
· Minimum 5 years progressive experience managing safety program in multi-site organization.
· Strong change management skills including development and execution of culturally-aligned change management strategies and targeted plans
· Demonstrated ability to engage and inspire and effectively develop and lead people
· University Degree or College Diploma in related field.
· Strong investigative, analytical, human relations and communication skills are required.
· Sound working knowledge of the Ontario OH&S Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act.
· Knowledge of Building Code, Industrial Hygiene standards, Construction Safety an asset.
