The Office of Research Administration is looking for a Research Contracts Analyst.  The primary responsibility of the Research Contracts Analyst will be to undertake the review, negotiation and management of low risk research contracts for specific research business units. 


  • receiving, reviewing, and managing low risk research agreements, including material transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements, privacy and data transfer agreements, service agreements and other research-related contracts
  • ensuring that all agreements comply with St. Michael's Hospital institutional policies
  • negotiating contractual financial terms on behalf of the Hospital, its Researchers, and other third parties engaged with the hospital
  • reviewing budgets
  • working with the hospital departments to ensure support of specific research needs
  • advocating on behalf of researchers with internal service providers
  • liaising with external parties as their agents in contract negotiation
  • liaising with the Human Resources Department to promote research compliance
  • maintaining liaisons with the University of Toronto and our sister teaching hospitals by attending various committee meetings
  • Other duties may be assigned as required at the discretion of the Director, Research Operations


  • Undergraduate degree with knowledge of contract law or; a law, business or health administration degree with related experience
  • Demonstrated excellent negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with research policies and guidelines, including Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act
  • Excellent drafting skills including superior English language (reading and writing) skills
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, interpersonal skills and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze legal documents and to explain their meaning in non-technical terms
  • Computer proficiency, knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others
  • Ability to exercise good judgment
  • Excellent detail oriented skills
  • Ability to manage multiple time sensitive documents for review simultaneously
