The Centre for Urban Health Solutions (C-UHS) Survey Research Unit (SRU) at St. Michael’s Hospital is currently seeking highly motivated individuals for the position of Research Assistant I. The Research Assistant will be part of a dynamic Unit that oversees a variety of research and evaluation projects related to health equity and social determinants of health. The Research Assistant’s primary responsibilities will be interviewing and assisting participants with self-administered surveys. This is a 12 month casual position, with a possibility of extension. Anticipated start date: Immediately.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend the Basic Income Pilot Evaluation enrolment sessions in Hamilton/Brantford, Lindsay and Thunder Bay and assist participants with the completion of the baseline survey. These are typically 8 hour sessions. Multiple sessions happen per week. Staff will be assigned to sessions based on their availability.
- Adhere to project protocols, including ethics, security, data transfer/storage and quality control.
- Potentially assist with:
- Participant tracking
- Phone interviewing
- Data entry and quality control
- Graduate of a community college or relevant experience.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with research participant tracking and interviewing.
- Experience relating to people experiencing poverty, housing instability, disability, mental health problems, addictions, language barriers, literacy barriers.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of organization is essential to this position.
- Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office.
- Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced work environment.
- Languages other than English are an asset.
- Flexible schedule including weekend and evening availability is considered an asset.
This position is based in Toronto. The candidate must be willing on occasion, to commute to Hamilton/Brantford, Lindsay and Thunder Bay to attend project enrolment sessions. The candidate must be able to utilize and navigate public transit services (transportation expenses are covered) or have access to a personal car when public transportation to the site is not available. The use of a personal cell phone also necessary for this role.
