The primary role of these Drug Access Navigator positions is to support patients in the programs noted below, with obtaining access to medications that are required as part of their treatment.

  1. Oncology Clinic (Medical Day Care) and Cystic Fibrosis/Respirology Programs
  2. Multiple Sclerosis Program  
  •  Act as central point of contact for care team members, patients and pharmacy personnel on all drug access issues for the two programs
  • Determine appropriate sources of funding available to patients requiring drug access assistance
  • Gather required information for completion and submission of applications to available funding programs
  • Complete regular follow up on submitted applications and communicate their status with care team members and patients as required
  • Ensure appropriate procurement, storage, inventory control, and relevant record keeping associated with compassionate and bridging medications
  • Update and maintain electronic records for tracking patient referrals, funding program follow up, funding renewals and compassionate drug inventory control
  • Assist with dispensing of medications when required    

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Registration as a technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a hospital and or outpatient/retail pharmacy with previous experience with Drug Access Navigation strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact in a professional manner with patients, family, caregivers, clinical team members
  • Thrives in a fast paced, high volume multidisciplinary clinical setting
  • Strong MS Excel skills and basic working knowledge of Word, Powerpoint, and Pharmaclik Rx
  • Excellent ability to keep meticulous records and time management skills
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in ongoing development/learning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to the vision, mission and values of St. Michael’s Hospital
