The mandate of the Education Technology Specialist is to develop, maintain, and provide oversight to an eLearning strategy for the organization, and to introduce new learning services delivered through electronic media. The Education Technology Specialist will be a key member of the hospital’s Education Portfolio; coordinating with diverse professions across the hospital to provide appropriate technology based learning, liaising with peers in other hospitals to ensure adherence to industry best practice, and managing learning technology vendor relationships.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Development and maintenance of eLearning modules and assets
  • Consultation with content specialists to plan and develop new eLearning projects
  • Provide training on design and use of development tools to facilitate decentralized content development
  • Review and maintenance of existing training modules
  • Learning Management System (LMS) administration
  • Development and maintenance of eLearning strategy
  • Engagement of key clinical and business stakeholders throughout the hospital
  • Development, monitoring and reporting of metrics related to learning technologies and outcomes

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum post-secondary degree or diploma in training / education or web development
  • 3+ years related experience in an e-learning development, instructional design and/ or learning technology solution role
  • Demonstrated knowledge of educational technology such as multimedia eLearning development, learning management systems, web development and web-based applications 
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency including advanced skills with:
    • Microsoft Office applications
    • Articulate suite of applications
    • eLearning authoring tools
    • Basic HTML coding
    • Database management and construction
    • Web application development tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theory
  • Well established ability to develop, design and deliver educational programs to all levels in the organization, up to and including senior leaders
  • Demonstrated creativity to identify optimum applications of technology to meet a variety of educational objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to design creative, interactive online courses
  • Strong creativity to develop innovative approaches to create new learning experience
  • Demonstrated experience with third party authoring tools for development of online courses
  • Demonstrated experience with administering an organizational learning management system 
  • Experience with graphic design and media development tools preferred (eg photoshop, illustrator, dreamweaver, flash html, java Script) for developing interactive online courses
  • Experience working with trainers/educators to convert existing curriculum content to an eLearning format
  • Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Understanding of the principles of project management and development methodologies, standards, systems and tools and their application;
  • Knowledge of leading and emerging practices in e-learning and other learning technologies
  • Demonstrated experience in measurement and evaluation of the effectiveness of e-learning and other technology based learning
  • Experience working in the healthcare industry is preferred
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines and mange heavy workloads, prioritizing tasks and managing conflicts
  • Demonstrated ability to take the initiative, work autonomously and remain flexible as plans change
