Position Summary:

The Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing the safety of an 8 mile light rail transit system that consist of 16 miles of guide way, 10 stations and the Operations Maintenance Storage Facilities, 32 Vehicles, 7 Traction Power Substations, 44 Mainline Automatic Track Switches, 16 Yard Track Switches and the employee base that operates and maintain the light rail transit system. Also, includes enforcing & overseeing limits of approach of construction work activities that are in the vicinity of the transit system and its facilities. Is responsible for all aspects of Site Safety and for applying safety systems knowledge that is required to provide passengers with a safe, and efficient transit system and employees with safe work procedures and processes. Responsible for reviewing, evaluating and analyzing work and work environments to control, eliminate and prevent on-the-job injuries and illnesses including contractors and vendors. Provide technical safety advice to management and employees and enforce compliance to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of employees including environmental protection. Will lease with all applicable State, Federal and Local regulatory agencies, as well as represent the Site in all safety related meetings with employees and clients. Responsibilities include developing and implementing emergency procedures, hazardous waste management, Safety System Program Plan and incident/accident/near miss investigations. The Safety Manager is on call 24/7 and is the 2nd person notified and required to respond to emergencies and system interruptions and failures. Serve as Duty Manager as required.

Day to day tasks:

50% Site Safety System - Lead the organization in creating a work environment that is free of recognized hazards that cause physical harm to employees, contractors and vendors and implementing corporate safety initiatives and enforcing federal and state safety regulations including environmental protection.

10% Training ¡V Develop and provide safety training. Perform job analyses and develop safe work procedures as it pertains to employees' and contractors' job tasks, equipment, tools and special projects.

15% Document and maintain company safety record keeping databases and accurately maintain and document regulatory record keeping.

10% Respond to accidents/incidents/near misses and other system interruptions and failures.

15% Oversee the the Safety Coordinator & Safety Intern and their activities.

Serve as duty manager on weekends and holidays.
