LOCATION:                              2 Broadway, New York, NY 10004 

HOURS OF WORK:                  9:00 am - 5:30 pm (7 1/2 hours/day)

 
SUMMARY:

The Head of Communications - TMO will be responsible for the development of TMO’s internal and external communication strategy and will contribute to TMO’s strategic planning process.  The Head of Communications will develop a targeted communications plan for TMO, directly managing communications activities that promote, enhance, and protect the TMO's brand reputation.  The Head of Communications will be responsible for the development, integration, and implementation of a broad range of public relations activities relative to the strategic direction and positioning of the TMO and its leadership. The goal is to gain buy-in with key stakeholders and partner across the MTA enterprise.

 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance TMO’s vision; broaden awareness of its objectives and priorities; and increase the visibility of its programs across key stakeholder audiences
  • Drive the research, planning, development, measurement, and success reporting of all communications programs
  • Partner with TMO senior leadership, Program Delivery leads and TMO team to develop thoughtful, targeted and creative communications
  • Develop and drive the employee engagement strategy for TMO Senior Executive and other leaders, including departmental communications, employee engagement updates, off site communications and town hall events
  • Develop and edit communications content and materials
  • Partner with MTA external affairs and other teams to ensure timely and effective execution of TMO’s communications
  • Assess risks, issues, and potential communications challenges and work with leadership to create proactive solutions; define and execute appropriate strategies to support them
  • Continuously and actively manage relationships to various stakeholders and interest groups internally and externally
  • Advance the visibility of the TMO and highlight its key messages across the MTA enterprise
  • Institute a feedback mechanism to measure the receipt, comprehension and effectiveness of TMO’s stakeholder communication strategy
  • Serve as communications counselor to TMO’s leadership
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives and establish priorities
  • Other duties as assigned

 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, MTA's Board of Directors and staff
  • Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships
  • Highly collaborative with exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Demonstrated experience building and leading a high performing team
  • Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output
  • Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs
  • Understanding of New York’s government and political climate is a plus

 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum 15 years’ related experience, including a minimum of 7 years’ in a group and/or department head role in a large, multi-faceted, fast-paced organization

As an employee of MTA Headquarters, you may be required to complete an annual financial disclosure statement with the State of New York, if your position earns more than $99,394 (this figure is subject to change) per year or if the position is designated as a policy maker.
