National Fleet, Maintenance and Compliance Manager

Position Summary

Reporting to General Manager, Tim Hortons Distribution, the National Fleet, Maintenance and Compliance Manager will develop and implement comprehensive fleet management strategies and practices to provide optimal performance for Tim Hortons Distribution fleet with focus on safety, reliability, and cost effectiveness. Fleet Manager leads the development and analysis of fleet performance, fuel and maintenance costs, and fleet-related investments to ensure operational, financial and customer objectives are met while operating a safe fleet and optimizing the return on investment. This role is responsible for all transportation assets in Canada for Tim Hortons Distribution.

The most competitive candidate will have experience working for a tractor/trailer manufacturer or fleet maintenance provider, proven track record of managing cross-functional team, sound analytical skills to assess the trade-offs in driving fleet configuration decisions, an ability to synthesize complex information, teamwork orientation and excellent communication skills

Position Responsibilities

  • Accountable for ensuring the operation has adequate, safe and reliable equipment; complying with all established laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures and available each day to complete deliveries
  • Perform justification and life cycle cost analyses; perform trend analyses for various vehicle performance and maintenance issues and related expenses
  • Investigate industry options and trends, determine and recommend the most appropriate capital and repair and maintenance solutions for fleet and related equipment
  • Develop and execute the annual Fleet Investment Plan, prepare specifications for new vehicle acquisitions and assist with vendor negotiation and selection
  • Support DC Transportation Teams to deliver the On Time performance results and maintain low Out Of Service percentage for TH fleet
  • Manage national contracts for fleet maintenance and fuel, lead commercial negotiations and manage service level of national providers. Monitor and evaluate vehicle maintenance trends, including the service and repair functions and improve operational efficiencies
  • In cooperation with Transportation departments of distribution centers, plan, direct and monitor preventive maintenance and repair programs for fleet. Train and mentor members of transportation departments with regards to fleet management
  • Manage fleet maintenance budget on a national level, analyze spend, conduct forecasting and introduce cost saving initiatives; create and implement appropriate cost management processes
  • Monitor the industry activity for changes in legislation that will impact transportation operations
  • Work with the National Manager Health & Safety on appropriate operational and reporting regulations and legislation. Ensure compliance with regulatory training requirements and MTO regulations is met.
  • Provide recommendations for and direction, support and training for fleet telematics, R&M software and any integration of these and future applications
  • Coordinate execution the trailer graphics program
  • Review financial and budget variances, review repair and approve account payable documents
  • Assist with developing and managing asset utilization plans

Required Skills And Experience

  • In depth knowledge of transportation equipment and an understanding of the mechanical functions of the equipment for equipment spec’ing
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills, critical thinking
  • Experience with P&L and cost management
  • Comprehensive knowledge on equipment standards and laws
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive professional relationships both in and outside of the organization
  • Strong sense of urgency. Should be driven and self-motivated
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities; meets deadlines and works well under pressure.
  • Enjoys working in a fast paced environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge on equipment standards and laws
  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Heavy duty equipment mechanic license would be an asset
