Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director IT/Telecom & Health Records, the IT Applications and Health Records Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and administration of IT Applications, Health Records, Coding and Abstracting, and Transcription services at The Scarborough Hospital. The Manager is accountable for the efficient and effective management and utilization of approved financial, human and material resources.

As an integral member of the Information Services portfolio, the Manager will promote the role of Informatics in facilitating all clinical professionals’ use of electronic and paper-based information effectively to meet customer needs.

The successful candidate will develop, implement and evaluate appropriate services, goals and objectives to ensure quality patient care and compliance with regulatory guidelines, in accordance with professional standards and the policies of The Scarborough Hospital. The Manager will manage and monitor/review departmental budget(s), analyze trends, and develop strategies to address variances.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Health Information Management or equivalent education
  • Current and active membership with CHIMA
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Health Information Management or experience in a similar environment
  • Minimum 5 years’ progressive management experience
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in managing information systems and other related technology
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • In depth knowledge of applicable legislation (e.g. Privacy Act, Consent Act)
  • Superior knowledge of coding standards, data quality processes and reporting systems
  • Knowledge of planning and budgeting processes, resource allocation, scheduling, human resource
  • Management, including dealing with collective agreements

  • Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
  • Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
  • Satisfactory work performance and attendance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Meditech Healthcare Information System
  • Member of a recognized Informatics Association an asset
  • Master’s degree in Health Administration preferred
  • Ability to speak another language
