Job Description

Clinical Psychologist, Goodhope Elhers-Danlos Syndrome Clinic - Toronto, Ontario

Hours:   18.75 HOURS PER WEEK
Status:  TEMPORARY PART-TIME 1 year contract

Position: Join a growing, cutting-edge, interprofessional team, where the contribution of psychology is valued and appreciated.

The Goodhope Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) Clinic is a path-breaking new initiative in clinical care for people living with this genetically inherited, rare disorder that impacts the formation and function of collagen in the body. Common symptoms include weak joints that subluxate or dislocate easily, stretchy fragile skin, and significant widespread pain.  Some individuals with EDS have a range of mental health concerns including mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, and emotion dysregulation.  Our interdisciplinary team works together to provide patients with excellent medical care as well as self-management and coping skills.  Our team includes medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, kinesiology, and psychology.

The responsibilities of the clinical psychologist include both psychological assessment and treatment.

Assessment is conducted for the purpose of case conceptualization as well as appropriate referral to in-house and external psychological treatment programs. Assessment includes administering and interpreting standardized psychological questionnaires, conducting diagnostic interviews and making diagnoses when appropriate, and writing comprehensive psychological reports.
Psychotherapy includes limited individual therapy for mood, anxiety, and personality disorders; one day coping skills workshops; and dialectical behavioral therapy skills groups. Psychological intervention is provided to both outpatients and inpatients diagnosed with EDS.
Clinical supervision is available to individuals completing supervised practice with registration in clinical and/or health psychology.  Psychology staff are involved in supervision and training of clinical psychology practicum interns and/or post-doctoral fellows.

The clinical orientation of the psychology team is grounded in mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches, including acceptance and commitment therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. Mindfulness meditation and cognitive-behavioral strategies are included in our repertoire. While we are appreciative of experience in working with medically ill patients, experience with dialectical behavior therapy and trauma treatment is a priority for the position we are currently filling.
