Our Sudbury Operation is currently seeking a:

Chief Engineer – Ventilation

The Opportunity:

This role provides technical support and coordination for managing the ventilation systems and oversight of ventilation activities for expansion projects at Copper Cliff Mine. The role will support integration of approved technologies, ensure that health and safety standards and legislated requirements are effectively satisfied and that the ventilation plan supports the Life of Mine Plan.

 This role functions as the resource to monitor the health and efficiency of the ventilation systems, communicate and obtain alignment on required changes, execute ventilation projects as assigned and communicate to the appropriate levels within the organization on status and issues. Oversite of the integration of existing systems with planned expansion of CCM footprint is critical.

 The role adds value by providing a link between operation of the existing ventilation system and new study designs and/or execution projects.

 Major Accountabilities:

  • Manage the mine's ventilation systems, including the primary and secondary distribution.
  • Establish work plans and lead the mine ventilation team; and as assigned, oversee mine expansion project ventilation personnel.
  • Execute audits of ventilation systems to monitor the level of compliance to both company and government requirements.
  • Provide training and mentoring to ventilation team to foster their skills and competencies.
  • Promote HomeSafe values amoung direct reports and follow safe protocols.
  • Foster and maintain a network of contacts within the Ontario Operations.
  • Follow established MTS Guidelines
  • Establish the mine ventilation plan and modify as required.
  • Work closely with other Chief Mine Engineers to understand capital asks that support the strategic plan
  • Communication of ventilation issues to varying audiences, internally ranging from hourly to senior management.
  • Influence growth projects as requied to benefit the business as a whole

Location: General Offices, Copper Cliff, Ontario

Grade: 15V

Education: The successful candidate will possess a university degree in mining.

Certification: A Professional Engineering Degree is required.

Experience: The successful candidate will possess between 8-10 years of progressive related experience.

Additional skills required:

  • Sound understanding of Ontario mines costing systems.
  • Solid understanding of current mine planning software.
  • Solid understanding of annual capital budgeting exercises.
  • Ability to break down complex issues, simplify and present solutions for the business that add value.
