Middleware Development Manager - Toronto, Ontario

Position / Role description

  •  Lead a team of Web / Java developers in the creation and enhancement of a variety of mission critical web / middleware applications, including the virginmobile.ca web site and the retail commissioning portal
  •  Provide development estimates
  • Plan resource allocation based on workload
  • Create development timelines
  • Promote teamwork and collaboration
  • Partner directly with senior leaders in Brand team to drive significant improvements in Virgin’s web based presence
  • Collaborate closely with other development teams, project managers, business analysts, quality assurance analysts, and IT operations primes throughout the software development lifecycle (requirements, design, development, testing, service transition/deployment)
  • Provide development support for the IT Operations team for ongoing support and maintenance, including but not limited to:
  • Off hour support allocations and escalation
  • Problem ticket and production incident resolutions within prescribed KPIs
  • Monitor and improve development processes and procedures

 

Skills

  • Strong knowledge and experience in web and middleware related technologies, with 5 to 10+ years of experience in leading web development teams
  • Strong organizational & time management skills, with ability to lead multiple development projects in different development stages simultaneously
  • Ability to work in an extremely ambiguous and ever changing environment (both technical and business)
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science or related field (BSc or MSc)
  • Background in telecommunications / wireless industry would be an asset
